1.Who thought of the name “The Dissension”? How would you describe your music?

Josh thought of it, just had a deadline for a name and threw that out there. No special reason for it. Our music is different and a little unpredictable. We've been described as a kind of progressive and melodic metalcore.

2. You guys released the “Gladius” single not too long ago, is there any new music coming out or being recorded soon? If so, when can we expect it?

YES! We are currently working on writing lots of new music that better describes "The Dissension Sound" We are trying to record it all along with writing. We want to get it out as soon as possible. Hopefully by mid spring we can start showing it off.

3. You guys shot a music video for “Gladius”, how did it go? Who shot it and how long did it take? Any plans on another video?

It was fun! It started out as a school project for Andrea Cronk, a Harbor Springs student and musician also. Surprisingly it took only a few hours of filming. Andrea finished the editing herself. No plans yet on another video, we got a lot of other business on the table at the moment.

4. How does the writing process within the band occur?

Originally, writing was done by serperatly bringing ideas and teaching it to the rest of the band. However, for our new music we focus on writing together. We try to collaberate and take everyones ideas and opinions into account. That way we get that "band" sound that makes us all happy.

5. What’s the music scene like there in MI? What’s your take on the whole metalcore scene in general?

The music scene is quite active in Michigan! Lots of good musicians around and many music lovers to support it. As for the metal scene, we feel lately its a little excessive with the trends and looks, and that it can somewhat limit the creative process. Not that we dont appreciate it, cause without it we couldn't do much. We tend to stray from "Scene" and "Trend" and stick to our own ideas, we feel thats the only way to be original about it.

6. You guys have had shows with For The Fallen Dreams and others. Any good show stories?

Every show is a fun unique experience. Nothing real crazy has happened yet, but we often take our mascot and friend M. Bison (a taxidermied deer head) down to shows and show him off to the city folk. We get a lot of good reactions that makes the trip fun.

7. What’s your take on music downloading?

Go for it, the more people that listen to music, the better.

8. Who are three artists you’d love to tour with?

ARBITER!!!! Bury the Creator, and for neil.... Trivium!

9. How would you describe your live show?

Live shows are our favorite thing to do! We like to keep a tight up-tempo energetic show that gets the crowd pumped!

10. What's next for The Dissension?

Hopefully A LOT! We got tons of new music on the way that we wanna get recorded for you to hear. After that we want to play as much as possible this summer!

11. Any shoutouts?

Rob and Sabrina Byron for putting up with our shit and doing all they have, without them there wouldn't be The Dissension. Randall Erno for being the man. 1.You guys just recently had a show with Lions! Tigers! Bears! How did it go?

The show was really good and fun. It was our first time playing out at the venue Bada Brew. The bands we played with were awesome as well. The fans made the show what it was. We just fed off of the energy from the crowd and it was great. We are heading back out to Bada Brew in a few months looking forward to it.

2. You guys have been around since 2009, what have you learned since then that you didn’t know back then?

I think we have learned a lot, I mean when we started we were real naive and thought this was easy and as we've progressed we realized it's actually a pretty hard concept to grasp. Our drummer, who is our manager as well, has learned the inner workings of the music business as far a local music is concerned. We have also been fascinated and have gained knowledge of the field of marketing when it comes to local music and sustaining the "music dream." But we love doing it as far as our music goes we keep progressing and getting better and better.

3. Are you guys writing new music? If so, when can we expect a release date?

We are in the process of finishing up two EP's titled "Truth and Justice for None" and "I am…", that should be out at the same time in March 2012. We are also just about done writing a whole new album with an all new sound; lower tuning, different tones, new concepts, while still keeping the "DamNation" metal feel. The new album, titled "One Nation Under DamNation" will be debuting June 2012.

4. Who are some of your influences?

We all have very different influences that span across all kinds of genres. We begin the inner influences with Classical Rock, Classical, jazz, and latin genres like salsa, merengue and bachata. These would be where we get the melodic side of DamNation. Then come the more modern and usual influences like metalcore, hardcore, thrash, rap, and hip-hop, to house and techno music. We have been influenced by bands, but for the most part simple genres influence us and our music more.

5. What’s the music scene like there in Chicago? What’s your take on the whole metalcore scene in general?

The scene in Chicago is as different as the 5 different areas of New York. The city can kind of be split up by genres like the North Side Scene kids, the South Side Metal Heads, and more. Its a very diverse scene that we believe will continue to grow and evolve. I think the Metalcore has become the new "it" factor. It seems to be at its highest peak and maybe still growing. However, I believe Metalcore is loved by the young, ok with the older folks, and will influence the new generation coming up.

6. Any good show stories?

We've had a lot of good times up on stage. Its hard to pick out some but two funny stories come to mind. During one of our shows, our old keyboardist jumped on his keyboard, a 88 key keyboard, and wailing back and fourth like he was riding a bull. It got the crowd going! Another one was at the venue Reggies Rock Club, when our bassist was just about to fall off the stage to the side entrance. Luckily our friend was backstage and caught him and pushed him back on stage. The whole time he did not stop playing the song.

7. What’s your take on music downloading?

We believe the music downloading has its negatives and its positives. On the positive side, the band or artist gets exposure thought the domino effect. If a friend downloads your music, they can spread it to others. That would be one of the positives that comes from that. However, the negative would be that artists and bands do not finically benefit form the song. Something that is crucial in this business.

8. You guys have an upcoming show with Primer 55. Who are three artists you’d love to tour with?

We would love to point out that we would love to tour with anyone! We love to play our music with who ever. But off the top of our heads, three bands that we would love to tour with would be As I lay Dying, Suicide Silence, and Of Mice and Men.

9. How would you describe your live show?

I believe the best way we can describe our shows is through the word "interactive." We love to cause a ruckus at our shows and show the audience how to have fun. Sometimes i might be though joking with the audience and showing them a good time, and sometimes it might be through egging them on and kind of getting them a little fired up. One thing we can always promise is a superb stage presence that will involve a lot of chaotic movement.

10. What’s next for DamNation?

Next for DamNation would be taking us to the next level. Or plans that are coming up include new and better merchandise, equipment, and more. Band wise, we are in the beginning stages of planning a tour. We want to see if that pans out, which is very do-able. And for sure more NEW music will coming very soon. We have a problem where we continue to write new music like a big kid eats cake.

11. Any shoutouts?

We just want to give a shout out to our keyboardist that is not with us at the time. He has a side project going while we await his anticipated return. the project is called WarTank. We also want to give shout outs to the band in the local scene that we have work with and collaborated with like: Mara, Phase Extermination, Morgan Le Faye, and Sex For Less. Thanks guys for helping us one was or another. And last but not least, we have to give a shout out to the people that have helped us the most: Friends, Family, Fans, Black and White Studios, 8track Studios, P-Town Studios, and of course Rock Scarz Magazine and From the Depths Entertainment for taking interest in us and our music.

1.Who thought of the name “Today’s Friday”? How would you describe your music?

Mitch did, he had a HUGE list of names that we went through, most of which were pus, but a few of them we thought were good. Today’s Friday won after a fair amount of deliberation. We would describe our music as deathcore style screams, traditional rock style clean vocals, metalcore style guitar work and lyrics with meaning. We don’t sound like anyone else, and we don’t write to a genre, we just write what we want to hear, and hopefully people like us as a result.

2. You guys released the “You’re Nothing But A Rib To Me” EP not too long ago, is there any new music coming out or being recorded soon? If so, when can we expect it?

We went through a period of about 4 months where we were writing a song every week or two, so we have a pretty large volume of original material. All up we have 20 songs in various states of completion, 13 of which we are playing live at the moment. The concept for our debut album is settled, as is the track listing, so we are currently organising recording to commence mid 2012. We are looking forward to showcasing our growth as a band, and the diverse nature of our songwriting.

3. The cover art for the EP is very unique. How did it come about and who was the model for the cover?

Mitch had the idea of having something to do with an xray on the cover of the EP due to You’re Nothing But A Rib To Me being the title track, and Stretch randomly happened to find that picture of the chick with the xray on tumblr one day, and it was exactly what we were looking for, so he hit up the artist and asked for permission to use it, and they said go for it. It was really just exceptionally good luck, and little else. Completing it was as easy as Stretch taking the image and superimposing the text onto it.

4. How does the writing process within the band occur?

Generally speaking, the song begins with a concept, whether that be lyrics, a riff or even just an idea, and then grows from there. I (Thursday) usually write all the music and then jam with Beastley to figure out structure and whatnot, additional parts do usually creep in. As far as lyrics go, Beastley and I are the chief lyricists, whether singularly or collaboratively, but Mitch has also contributed a couple of songs, and similarly Stretch contributes the odd riff here and there.

5. What’s the music scene like there in Australia? What’s your take on the whole metalcore scene in general?

The cities tend to be pretty good, but anywhere else becomes very difficult, which is unfortunately where we are situated. We are keen to travel to gigs anyway, so this isn’t a problem. We enjoy each others company and always get up to lots of dumb shit on our random band related adventures. The metalcore scene on the whole is very supportive; everyone always has each others back. It’s probably the whole underdog thing. We all stick together and help each other out, whether that be feedback, letting each other in on bills/contacts etc.

6. Any good show stories?

Our second gig was at our guitarist and his girlfriend’s joint birthday party. Being that Stanthorpe is the coldest place in Queensland (and it was the middle of winter), it was a balmy -2 Degrees Celsius (I think 28F or so) outside. Needless to say, fingers don’t work well in the cold, so the show consisted of us moshing extra hard to keep warm, random band members ditching their instruments to join the 4 man pit, and us generating huge amounts of accidental feedback from the hastily arranged, and horribly inadequate, PA we had hired. In the end the night culminated in a certain somewhat portly drummer from another local band destroying Beastley’s drum stool. It was EXCELLENT and everyone had a great time!

7. What’s your take on music downloading?

We are all for it. As far as we are concerned, if you download our music, it’s still exposure for us, and if it translates into people being keen to come and see us play live, or buy our Album because they liked it so much, then all the better. As far as I’m concerned the whole thing probably originated from a lot of artists releasing albums that had 2 good songs and 14 utter shite songs, so people got pissed off with paying 30 bucks to listen to 2 worthwhile songs. I don’t blame them, and it’s not like it will be going away, so why not embrace it?

8. Who are three artists you’d love to tour with?

Parkway Drive, A Day to Remember, Asking Alexandria

9. How would you describe your live show?

Us having a LOT of fun mainly. We ALWAYS choose the fun option, and we have a lot of banter between ourselves and the audience as well.

10. What’s next for Today’s Friday?

As many gigs as we can play, anywhere we can play, and recording our album. Hooking up merch, and trying to connect with our fans as much as possible.

11. Any shoutouts?

Above City Skies, All the Dead Pilots, Sound the Sirens, Warrant Promotions, TB Promotions, Pedal to the Metal Promotions have all helped us out a ton, as well as our respective partners/families for putting up with the neglect. Not to mention the neighbours!!

1. How did you guys get together and form? Who thought of the name “Aftermath”?

Zach and Mike started talking through their mutual friend Matt. Zach could scream and Mike could sing and play guitar. It all started escalating from there. Xavier's pretty famous for drumming around Methuen and Justin, Zach and X all went to the same grade school and started talking about the band. Will has played bass for eight years and co-founds our clothing sponsor, Justice in Eyre. We had lost our bassist around the same time that his other band went on hiatus. Aftermath was then complete. The name is pretty simple. We were all hanging, thinking of possible names and Mike thought of Aftermath. Not too big of a story. Haha, but then Aftermath began.

2. The new song “Perspectives” features Bobby Spence of Dead Ocean. How did you hook up with him and when can we expect the new EP?

We actually recorded our first EP with Bryce Kariger, their lead guitarist. So, in doing that, we had connections with Dead Ocean. We are actually working on a full-length album, and we expect it to hopefully be done by the summer.

3. The influence you have listed is “God” on your Facebook. Are you a Christian band? Does that ever become problematic for potential listeners?

No, we don't really try to preach to our listeners. We sing about our beliefs and give a positive outlook to potential listeners. We don't have problems with them though.

4. How does the writing process within the band occur?

Our music has a new feel depending on what we are listening to at the time. We all get together and write the parts on a basic scale. Along the way we make changes to perfect it. Finally, the lyrics come together as the song is finishing.

5. With heavy hitters like Killswitch Engage and Hatebreed both coming from MA. What’s the music scene like there in MA recently?

It sucks. Honestly, the people from MA are really judgemental, and if you don't sound like the big-hitters, you suck. "Generic", as most would say.

6. You guys had a show with InArmistice and Life On Standby this Saturday. Any good show stories?

So an old story: We used to have two front men, Zach and one other. At the Summer Breakdown in June, the other vocalist was trying to act tough, and he ended up punching himself in the face with the mic. Giving himself a bloody nose.
One of our newer stories: Will's audition for the band was playing at a small show in New Hampshire. The Venue had built boxes on the front of the stage for the band to jump off of, and one of the opening acts frontman decided to stand on his box while we were playing. Will in an attempt to get him out of the way punched him in the face and threw him into the pit.

7. What’s your take on music downloading?

As long as your supporting the band in some way, through merch, or coming to shows, we don't mind if you steal the music.

8. Who are three artists you’d love to tour with?

Three bands we'd like to tour with would have to be: Spies Like Us, Texas in July, and Dead Ocean

9. How would you describe your live show?

ABSOLUTE MADNESS. Lately, alot more energetic. We try to get the crowd involved as much as possible and we love our fans. Especially with all the new places we've been playing and going to play at in the near future.

10. What’s next for Aftermath?

We're writing for the new CD and working on a tour for the summer.

11. Any shoutouts?

We'd like to give shout-outs to our best buds in Spies Like Us, Silent Stories, and Dead Ocean. Definitely Justice in Eyre. Christian Napolitano. 1.Who thought of the name “Amongst Carrion”? How would you describe your music?

Dan C (Lead Guitarist) thought up the name of the band. Our music has fast riffs, heavy breakdowns and melodic choruses and we think we bring something new and exciting to metal music.

2. Who came up with the concept for the music video for “We That Should Not Be“? How did the video shoot go?

The concept for the music video was a combined effort between members of the band and members of the video production company. We really wanted the video to portray what the lyrics were describing.

3. The designs for your merch and EP cover are very unique and cool. Who came up with the artwork and what was the inspiration?

The EP cover was designed by Dan P (Bass) as well as the samurai merch t-shirt design. The coat of arms t-shirt was designed by a graphic designer called Sam Parret, the inspiration was from noticing the design of the coat of arms from the back of a one pound coin.

4. How does the writing process within the band occur?

Dan C writes all the musical score for the songs and then Josh will writes the lyrics. Dan C records each song as he goes along and will demo the track to the boys in the band and then teach them their parts. The drums are usually amended by Scott if has a more creative idea.

5. With such a hotbed for music coming from overseas. What’s the music scene like there in the UK? What’s your take on the whole metalcore scene in general?

The UK music scene is hot and cold at the moment, its hit and miss with gigs as you can never tell how well its been promoted in that area until you turn up and wait to see how many people show up at the doors. The metalcore scene at the moment is pretty typical as all bands are drawing a lot of influence from the same bands therefore they are all sounding very similar, this probably doesn’t help with getting new people to come out to shows more often as they will be bored with the same sounding music being played all the time which why we hope to bring something different sounding and exciting to the scene.

6. You guys have had shows with The Hand Of Glory and others. Any good show stories?

We have played a few shows where we have all been pretty ill and probably not supposed to be out of bed but we think the best cure for ailments like that is to go and nosh the hell out of it and people beat the wind out of each other to our music.

7. What’s your take on music downloading?

We think it is costing the music industry a hell of a lot of money meaning they are more reluctant to take on new bands which then limits the amount of new music and bands that get exposure to the masses. This could lead to some awesome bands and music never being discovered and a lot of talent and potential going to waste.

8. Who are three artists you’d love to tour with?

We would love to tour with bands such as Parkway Drive, Lamb of God and The Acacia Strain. We know that a tour with any one of those bands would be a wild experience and think we would get a long with all of the guys in those bands as we have a really good time.

9. How would you describe your live show?

We put our all into our live performance. We like to make sure the crowd gets involved and want it to be an intense show that people will remember and talk about later on.

10. What’s next for Amongst Carrion?

We are looking to tour this year and also make another music video. We hope to maybe record and release a full length album and also get a load of new merch in.

11. Any shoutouts?

Would like to give a shout-out to all of our fans for sticking to us and making all that we do worthwhile. Would also like to give a shout-out to Jonny Renshaw from Devil Sold His Soul for recording our EP and making it sound as beasty as it does. 1. How did you guys get together and form? Who thought of the name “Your Best Bet”?

Eric – Jeremy and Collin went to high school together and have been jamming for awhile. They have a metal project called Desertion, in which I used to be the lead vocalist for. I left the band in the summer of 2011 due to influential differences. Collin and I started writing pop punk songs together and decided to make it an actual band and asked Jeremy (the band’s token metal head) to drum, and he hesitantly agreed. We have been close friends ever since. Pierre came into the picture later as the second guitarist when we all realized that it sounded empty with just 3 of us. I thought of the name “Your Best Bet”. I find it kind of ironic in our genre because that phrase is usually followed by someone telling you what to do, plus it’s just plain fun to get on stage and yell “Hey we’re Your Best Bet!”

2. Your logo of the bear is very different and outstanding., Who came up with it and what was the inspiration behind it?

Eric – I wanted to have a mascot and a design that incorporated as many Canadian stereotypes as we could think of to support the title of “Canadian pop punk”. I brought up the idea to the talented Vince Kogut and he was happy to bring the idea to life.

3. You guys did a cover of Enya’s “Only Time”. How did that come about?

Collin - Basically, we wanted to do a cover of something epic and never done before. The “Pop Goes Punk” CD’s always had covers of whatever was popular on the radio, we wanted to do the same but a lot of the songs we wanted to do had already been done. Then, randomly the idea of covering an Enya song was brought up and when I thought about it more and more, I found that the chords and song structure is pretty much the basis of a pop punk song...Just a million times slower and a creepy Celtic Folk Singer doing it.

4. What can people expect from a Your Best Bet show?

Collin - A LOT of energy and a really tight set. Having a fourth member has made things so much easier on myself because I do a lot of singing in our newer songs and playing guitar and singing at the same time has never really been my forte’. We’ve been told our sets are full of energy and thought we haven’t played many pop punk shows in Windsor. People have said that they like our music a lot, even though it’s not particularly their style. So, I’d say people have gone home from one of our shows with a different outlook on the pop punk genre.

5. When can we expect new songs/EP?

Collin – We are always writing new music and we usually tryout new songs at shows, if we feel the crowd would dig it. We are looking to go into the studio soon to record a full length but, it’s just a matter of money.

6. What is the music scene like up in Canada?

Collin – Pop punk is a fresh market in Ontario. There’s only a few pop punk bands in Canada that are starting to break out and make a name for themselves internationally. As far as our hometown of Windsor goes, the scene is pretty underground with mostly basement punk shows but the crowd seems to be growing more and more every show we go to

7. Any good show stories? How did the show with The Bunny The Bear go?

Eric - The Bunny The Bear show was our first show and it went very well, even though we didn’t fit in with any of the other bands at all. We didn’t expect such a great crowd response for our first show; it definitely got us excited to play more shows.

Collin – Our first house show we ever played our set got pushed back and so we decided to break into our beer before we went on. Sure enough we were plastered by the time we went on. After our set we had to leave because we were too drunk. We are good friends with the house owners, so they weren’t upset with us and were very understanding.

8. What are some of your influences for the new tracks?

Collin – I’ve been listening to a lot of melodic hardcore (pianos become the teeth, touché amore, etc.) That influence you’ll hear more on the new stuff. The songs are going to have trickier structures to them and be a little heavier but still maintaining the pop punk sound.

Jerms – A lot of my drumming for our songs comes from a combination of Metal and Easycore esque drumming. I fluently listen to Blink 182, so that helps me get used to the style and technique in the pop punk genre. Other bands that influence me include Kid Liberty, The Vegas Wake Up, We Were Sharks and With The Punches.

9. You guys have a benefit show coming up.

Collin – Yeah we’re pretty stoked about it, mainly for the cause though. The show is to help Eric’s friend go to Africa supporting Canadian Charity Youth Challenge International to help the children in need. We’re playing with a bunch of death metal bands and we DO NOT fit the bill at all, but we’re still going to do our best to put on a killer show!

10. What’s next for Your Best Bet?

Collin – We want to do extensive amounts of touring, put out a full length, sell a bunch of merch and meet some solid friends along the way. We would also like to hit the states as soon as we can because the market for pop punk there is much more alive than it is here in Canada.

11. Any shoutouts?
Eric – Tons! Lots of love goes out to all of the other Windsor bands involved with this scene. The Rowley Estate, With Glowing Hearts, Another Intention, Young Bones, The Nefidovs, Ape Cassette, Shared Arms, Always A New Day, Falling With Glory, Anu Beginning, Blackheart and Nathan Boots at Visceral Studios for recording our EP!

Let's be honest, blending emocore with synth isn't anything new. Whether it's the legends like Underoath or Enter Shikari or the newer bands like We Came As Romans or His Statue Falls, in order to catch people attention, you have to have your own style. What Wings Once Held albeit young, his the potential to be something special. They show their influences on the album but they mesh their music so well and the production is so good that it doesn't feel like a debut.

This being their debut EP, it shows the listener a ton of promise. "Forced Hellos" is an instrumental/synth 56 second intro to kick off the EP. The second track "If I'm Peter, Who's Phil" kicks things off with a bang. The song has everything: breakdowns, aggressive screaming, a tad of synth, a gang chant, driving melodic riffs and singing that is perfect. The track overall is very comparable to something that Heartshed would do. The third track "Dude What Happened Last Night and Why Am I Naked?" is a perfect example of What Wings Once Held. The song has a perfect blend of aggression and melody.

The fourth track "With Good Intentions Let's Head To Texas" has catchy riffs, a catchy chorus and any fan of catchy music should feel right at home with the track. The track "I Can't Fly Well But I Can Glidewell" starts off with a tad more synth than the other songs but it isn't any slouch in the breakdown or melody department. Any fan of "They're Only Chasing Safety" era Underoath should dig this track. "Rushed Goodbyes" is a buildup acoustic song that is comparable to a track done by We're Not Superheroes Anymore. The song has heart. The whole EP has heart. Heart is something we have to follow to succeed in life. If we don't, "we'll cease to exist".

Verdict:
Where What Wings Once Held goes musically is up to them. They show a lot on this EP and the production is phenomenal. They can run with the big boys if they keep evolving and continue to create their own style. The sky is the limit for this promising up and coming band.

The Hand Of Glory Update: The Deafground Tour went pretty well. They're going to the studio in April with a late June-July release for the album "Dead In The Water". Song titles include: "Dead In The Water", "Wolves At Your Door", "These Vices", "Cursed" plus 6 more songs yet to be finished. The album will be released on Metal Blanc Media with distribution through Cargo Records. They will begin shooting for a music video in the spring time and they will be on a 4 day United Kingdom tour with I Defy at the end of Jan.

They also have a new clothing endorsement through Brutal Knack check www.brutalknack.de

They have one of their songs in an upcoming German zombie series titled Viva Berlin! The first song in the trailer is their instrumental "Inside This Empty Shell".

1. How did you guys get together? How did the name “Through The Eyes Of A Giant” come about?

We actually went through a few names before coming across this one, we thought of this one cause it’s a great example of a birds eye view. Which is our outlook on life, like don’t judge a book by its cover, make sure you get the birds eye view so you can see the whole situation.

2. You guys just has a big show with Atilla, We Came As Romans and more. How did it go?

It went great, all the bands are all very cool dudes, we would enjoy playing with any of them anytime. Crowd was great.

3. Devin Shelton (ex Emery) and Nick Mullins (Clocks) was on your song “Neither Can Live While The Other Survives”. How did the collaboration between you guys come about? How was it working with him?

The studio we went to he happened to work at so of course we were all excited cause we all are emery fans, I mean who isn’t? so we asked him to do guest vocals, so he is a pretty cool dude and said yes, it was pretty sweet work with him, he is a great singer! Nick is our good buddy and he has a great scream so we wanted it on our track. Make sure to check out Clocks they are one of the best progressive metal bands we've heard in a long time.

4. What’s the music scene like up in Illinois?

It’s a great music scene the people are all really cool, and we always have a great time at shows.

5. You guys just recorded a song with Matt Dalton and Craig Owen of D.R.U.G.S entitled “Suit Up”. When can we see a release of the track?

You can get a track as soon as they send it, we actually have a rough draft track that we can give you you.

6. For people coming out to see a live show of yours, what should they expect? Has their been a crowd favorite song?

They should expect a great energy, interations with the crowd for sure, and we get a better reaction from our song entitled “Deers Named Frank” because it’s a bouncey song that people can easily move to it.

7. How did the endorsements of Advocate Clothing, Arkaik Clothing, and Legionnaire Clothing, and Dirty Dudes Apparel come about?

We emailed them and had them check our stuff out, and they liked what they heard so the endorsed us. They all have great clothes. We love them.

8. What are you guys currently listening to?

Attila, Woe Is Me, Chunk No Captain Chunk, We Came As Romans, I The Breather, Memphis May Fire, Sleeping With Sirens, Close Your Eyes, DRUGS.

9. Out of the past shows you’ve had with bands such as Close Your Eyes, The Chariot and Sleeping Giant, is there one show that sticks out as just being plain awesome?

This last show we played with We Came As Romans, Attila, Sleeping With Sirens, and For All I Am, it was the most amount of people we played for, and the best energy so far. But all the shows we play are great to be honest.

10. What’s next for Through The Eyes Of A Giant?

To keep playing shows, Record more of our songs and hopefully a label comes from that, What more can we ask for

Austria isn't known for melodic hardcore but the way Almost Failed is going, they soon will be. Almost Failed has been evolving and perfecting their style for a little bit now and if this short EP is any indication, great things are coming very soon.

The intro track is reminiscent of an instrumental that Killswitch Engage would have on their releases. It leads into their first single "Humans". It is very upbeat and you can feel the passion pouring from the speakers. The next track "This One's For You" shows a more hardcore side with breakdowns but still keeps the passion and melody present. The last track on the EP called "Consequence" is a 5 minute song that is an instrumental, then is a little screaming in the background. Then it starts building up more and more with screaming in the background which is very similar to a Poison The Well instrumental, which is always a good thing. When the break finally hits, the whole EP is cumulative in these moments. It summarizes everything they just showed in the EP. Passion. Heaviness. Melody. Potential.

Verdict:
For such a short EP, it gives the listener a glimpse of whats to come. Their sound has matured since their inception and it shows with this EP. With only two actual songs on the EP, it definitely makes the listener salivate for more. Keep an eye out for Almost Failed.

1. How did you guys form? Were you in bands before this one?

The vocalists have been great friends for a long time and also have been great friends with our bass player. We found our drummer who basically led us to everyone else. All of us have previously been in bands.

2. The song “If I’m Peter, Who’s Phil” has been garnering a lot of buzz. What was the recording process like with the song? Who is Zack Jasper (who’s featured on the song)?

It was fun recording with Jimmy up here in little ol’ Spokane. Zack Jasper is a buddy who is in a band called "Light Up The Sky." He screams in the very last breakdown with Tyler.

3. What can we expect from the upcoming EP? Is it titled? When can we expect a release?

Our same style with a little more pizazz while being very experimental in our style at the same time. We are not sure what our EP will be called yet, but we're thinking it may be a self titled release.

4. You have your first show coming up on July 16th, what can people expect from a What Wings Once Held performance?

Our stage presence will be very unique and we're having our own lights designed with some friends' help. It should be very exciting for everyone.

5. You guys incorporate synth into your songs. Is that something that will be more prevalent in more of your songs or used very little?

More prevalent, but not too overdone. We're not trying to go for too much electronic sound; it's really more the icing on the cake.

6. Who are some of your influences?

We Came As Romans, Of Machines, Enter Shikari, Confide, Kingdom of Giants, Of Mice & Men, Oceana(older), This Romantic Tragedy, Blessthefall.

7.What is the music scene like there in Spokane, Washington?

The hardcore scene is most dominant here. If there is screaming in it. People will probably like it. Lots of throwin down.

8. You guys have a very cool logo. How did the logo come about? Who did it and was was the inspiration behind it?

There are wings on it. Our guitarist Kaleb made it in a couple minutes.

9. What are you guys currently listening to?

Everything besides country.

10. What’s next for What Wings Once Held?

Wherever the wind takes us. We are taking this really serious and are hoping that everyone that hears us will really like us!

Scream/Ruin has been doing music for awhile now and while this album came out last year, it sets up great things for this band from VA. The opener "Mausoleum" builds up with a good riff and albeit an instrumental, it sets a very metal tone for the album due to its breakdown 3/4 into the song. The second song "The Hospital Ghost" starts out with a synth and then goes into a riff which is very melodic and almost like an old Skycamefalling song for a little while. The vocals are harsh but it compliments the time signatures and riffing quite nicely. "Flags At Half Mast" is almost like a "Ride The Lightning" type song from Metallica. They don't pull any punches with the song as it hits the listener with riffing and chugs from all angles. "Empires and Vampires" is a atmospheric acoustic song to let the listener get soothing by calm mood it creates.

"Sweet Texas Death Rattle" opens with a smidgen of singing and a gang chant and almost has a southern metal tinge to it. The synth is prevalent in the chorus of the song. "Kainos" opens with almost a Slayer-esque riff and just keeps going and almost turns into Pantera riffing but with a synth in the background. It's very different and adds an element of surprise for the listener. "Unsound" is the last song on the album and it closes off the album perfectly. Very epic song (over 6 minutes long) and summarizes all the metal you just heard one last time in a melodic heavy riffing that will keep your head banging the entire 6 minutes.

Verdict:
There's a lot of metal coming out of the state of VA nowadays, while some are just beginning, Scream/Ruin has been doing it for awhile and it shows. The riffing, drumming and vocals are all there and we can't wait for their next album as this album nearly gave us whiplash from all the head banging.

1. How did the band come together and form? What's the story behind the name Scream/Ruin?

The band’s history is incredibly detailed, full of great successes and massive catastrophes. My brother and I started this band about a decade ago with the purpose of completing one unified, solid goal: To publicly vocalize what we had in our hearts…at any cost. Times were different then. A lot of us were going through dark chapters in our lives and those aspects came through in our music, live performances, and lyrical content. Honesty and transparency has always been important to us. Our individual beliefs aside, no one in this band will project an image that doesn’t remain true to who they are at said point in time. What you see is what you get. Over the years we’ve had a revolving door when it comes to band members, leaving Kyle and I the only original members in the current line up. That being said, in my opinion, Scream/Ruin has never sounded better than with the group of guys we have with us right now.

The story behind the band name is rather interesting. It came about while driving through Gonzales, Louisiana where my brother and I had a head on collision with a local. The guy swerved into our lane driving an old pick up truck with a dead deer and bunch of caged raccoons in the truck bed. Immediately, the guy jumped out his car, darted into some nearby woods while screaming at the top of his lungs, “You ruined my supper!” He completely abandoned the scene, leaving us in a state of delirium and unbelief. We never heard from or saw that guy again. It was the most bizarre thing ever. Needless to say, that experience left quite an impression. Not long after, we decided to call ourselves Scream/Ruin, purely inspired by that guy’s verbal reaction and yelling antics.

2. You guys have been together since 2008, how has the response been to shows outside of VA?

The band actually started back in 2001, and after a two year hiatus, we reformed in 2008 with the current line up. Kyle and I are both in different places then where we were when the band first started, both personally and musically. We have different goals this time around. Since reforming, I believe our audiences, both locally and out of state recognize this. For the most part, our shows outside of Virginia have been well received. We hope to continue playing for crowds that might not be too familiar with us and gain more fans.

3. You released a DVD, could you tell us more about that?

Considering that we hadn’t put out any music since 2006, we wanted our “comeback” effort to be the best material we could offer at that time, including the artwork and packaging. We really wanted to go all out. When this was going on, no other local bands in our community were doing what we were doing when it came to live performances. We wanted to keep that innovative mentality when it came time to record and release the next album. We decided to make the next release a 2 disc package; a full-length album accompanied by a professionally filmed live DVD. The DVD footage was shot at a venue in Fairfax, Virginia in March 2010. It features some material from our previous albums and early versions of some of the songs that made it onto the “Restored” album.

4. Have you written any new material?

We have a few new songs written that we will debut on our upcoming tour with Never To Be Silenced in July. We are experimenting with different tunings and incorporating more clean singing. We are moving away from the thrash/speed metal elements that can be found on “Restored”. Instead, we’re turning our focus towards the more melodic aspects of our songs and concentrating on our overall musicianship.

5. What are some fond show memories you have? What song is the crowd favorite?

There have been so many memories, it would be impossible to narrow them down. I could speak on all the times I’ve broken bones while performing, watching the crowd singing every word to their favorite Scream/Ruin song, rioting audiences resulting in the band’s banishment from two venues, being asked for an autograph, or being continually humbled by our fans who often travel great distances to watch us perform. There are just so many. Now, whether or not all of those would be categorized as “fond” is entirely subjective. Nevertheless, every show is memorable and we are thankful for just being able to perform.

We always get a great crowd response from “Unsound”. It’s one of our personal favorites as well. “1000 Steps Backwards” from 2005’s “Blood.Prayer.Coma” has always put the crowd in motion too.

6. How did the design work for your logos come about?

We call it the “Knot Logo”. I created it using four letter R’s, and intertwined them together into a Celtic knot type of shape. We bring a fairly unique musical approach to the hardcore/metal genre, and as such, we wanted the representative logo for band to be as equally unique. I feel we have conveyed that.

7. What is something you want the audience leaving with after witnessing a Scream/Ruin live show?

It’s important for us to let the audience know that we are more than just a band out here for kicks. If that were the case, it would be extremely irresponsible considering some of us have wives, children, and full time jobs. With that in mind, we are out here anyway, moving forward with a specific purpose.

Aside from our own light show, props, sound effects and the entire crazy circus we bring with us to every show, it’s our overall mission to form relationships with people before and after shows in various communities, in order to be an influence and a tool used for positive change. We as individuals are an open book. We strive to be honest and open with others about our lives, struggles, failures, mistakes and victories. We aim to be a light in a scene full of darkness.

8. What are some of your influences?

Everyone in this band comes from a different musical background. It’s one of the reasons why our songs seem to incorporate so many different genres and sounds. It’s like a huge melting pot of culture and inspiration. I was once asked to describe our sound and the only way I could explain it was by saying “If an 80’s Bay Area Thrash band traveled to Alabama to go to a Post-Hardcore show and then flew directly to Gothenburg to watch the 1984 film, ‘The Never Ending Story’…you’d have something close.” Bottom line, we draw inspiration from a wide variety of artists. Rock, Country, Metal, Pop, Hip Hop, it’s all relative and we all take something from what we listen to. It’s what makes us well rounded.

9. What's next for Scream/Ruin?

We plan on writing new material for the upcoming tour in July. After that we hope to keep touring and eventually get into a studio and cut a new album. We hope we are fortunate enough to have the cycle repeat itself for a long time to come.

In a musical climate, spanning everywhere from Pop to Black Metal, where most bands are totally content with sounding exactly like their peers, August Ruins seemingly doesn't seem to be at all content with that. Nobody ever said mixing punk, hardcore and hints of metal was going to easy, but somehow, by someway, August Ruins have managed to fuse all three into something, and that something is actually good! Where there are select bands who try to outshine each other as being as 'left field' as possible, August Ruins doesn't have to force anything. They're different just by being themselves and playing the music that they themselves love, and while punk has sort of been hiding for the past few years, it could just be them who ressurect it back into it's prominence. 'The Ghost and the Gasoline' quickly starts off with 'Forfeit and Deny', a punk song which incorporates a nice helping of metal guitar work, that serves as a great introduction to the EP. The technique on the song can easily be called original, and the lyrics, to put it in lamens terms, have a lot of heart. 'Carry me away, stop denying yesterday, your lying to yourself' may be possibly be the best line in the whole song, and that's not to say that the rest of the lyrics don't resonate, it's just this reviewers personal favorite! Keeping up that pace and not missing a beat, August Ruins quickly blasts into "Bleed With Me", a piercing song which is light on it's feet but hits especially hard. The drum work is fast and very contagious, coupled with excellent guitar work and immaculate bass, this song does not disappoint at all. With personal lyrics to top it all off, it makes for an interesting and sonic mix. As 'Don't Turn Away' comes in, it's very apparent that these guys know exactly what they're doing. It's a slower paced song than it's two predeccesors, but in no way does it come up short. The lyrics are very insightful and it showcases the bands talent well and readily proves that they can create songs that strech far beyond even the toughest critics expectations. As 'Don't Turn Away' fades out and 'Our Endless War' comes storming in, it proves that at a drop of the hat, August Ruins can bring that intensity and heat back. With a chorus made for the crowd to sing along to, it's moments like this where the band seem poised to take over the scene, and there's no denying that. Now, possibly the weakest song on 'The Ghost and the Gasoline', 'Instrumental', is where I get lost. It's not that it's bad, musically speaking by any means, it's just that it kind of leaves me wondering why they didn't keep the momentum going. Sure, they may have wanted to slow it down just a bit, but on an EP? I could see taking a break on an LP, but not on an EP. I feel this may have been best reserved as a hidden track at the end of the EP, rather than right before their final hurrah. But just in the knick of time, while 'Instrumental' closes out, they come back in on 'What You Don't Know', a blistering anthem that is the PERFECT ending to a great EP. 'What You Don't Know', just like 'Our Endless War', seems to also be made for the crowds and I could see them playing it live as their last song of the night. I'm not sure if they actually do this, but I think it's probably the best song to end a set with mainly because it's strong, in your face and it leaves a hell of a lasting impression!

Verdict:
So, all in all, I'd give 'The Ghost and the Gasoline' a solid 8 out of 10. It's a thorough EP, and it's one of the freshest things I've heard in the past three to four years. They make outstanding songs and work exceptionally well together as a band. Also, the lyrics are clever and well written, which only makes the whole deal a lot sweeter, making August Ruins a band you should definately be checking for!

1. You guys are a fairly young band. How did the band come together?

We started playing in the summer of 2010 doing covers. We went through a lineup change and when our bassist came into play we started writing original music. After a couple of shows, we removed our drummer and recorded our first demo in January 2011 and right after that we added our current drummer, making our current lineup.

2. How did the recording process of "Watch Me As I Self Destruct" EP go?

It was a learning experience, but at the same time it was long and tiring. We should've planned things out better and our vocalist was sick during the recording process.

3. You guys are re-recording the album but with more songs. What's the tentative rlease date and do you record yourself or you have a studio in mind?

The release date for that EP is late summer/early fall 2011 and we have a few studios in mind, but nothing's set in stone.

4. Your sound is very unique, how would you describe it to a potiental listener?

You decide for yourself.

5. How were your shows with The Faceless and Arsis?

The Faceless show was nerveracking due to it being our first live performance and us not really "fitting in" with any of the other bands there. The Arsis show, however, was much better. We knew what to expect and got a great response from the crowd.

6. What can people expect from a 1Alliance show? You guys excited for the upcoming I,Breather show?

Lots of energy and movement, crowd interaction, and our songs. Yes we are excited, by the way.

7. What's the local music scene like there in Virginia?

A bunch of heavy metal and grindcore bands.

8. How much of your influences (All That Remains, Underoath, Iron Maiden) do you think you add to your music?

We don't really know, our influences vary from a lot of different genres like metal to classical to blues. However, we don't let it affect our music, we try to make ourselves as unique as possible.

9. What's next for 1Alliance?

Way more shows, more new songs, and an album by the end of the year.

10. Any shoutouts?

Our families, friends, girlfriends, God, and everybody we have ever met.

When you think metal, the state of Virginia doesn't really come to mind. Epitome Of The Weak is here to change that. The intro track "Waking Torment" is an instrumental that builds momentum for the album to come. "Sanctity" is very melodic but very reminiscent of old Bullet For My Valentine, clean vocals throughout but still holds the heaviness to keep the metalhead happy.

"Relapse" is the third song on the album and it's opening riffing is very Slayer like oddly enough. It goes into harsher vocals while having clean vocals which is very much like old All That Remains. "Consecrated Voyage" is sure to get the floor moving and the crowd singing along as its very breakdown heavy and then breaks into clean singing which then transitions into a guitar solo which differs things up.

"Behind Broken Walls" is a song that keeps the theme of harsh vocals mixed with clean vocals going but still keeps it fresh due to the riffing and fine instrumentation in the background. While "Rising Sun" closes the album, the song is by no means a slowdown filler song. The song is radio friendly with catchy riffing and choruses that is memorable to get stuck in your head. Near the end of the song is potential for a gang chant if played live with the lyrics of "We won't fall". I hope that is indeed true and the band keeps kicking just like their album kicks ass.

Verdict:
While this album may be an acquired taste for some due to its metal uniqueness, the potential of the music is definitely there. With more time and hard work, Epitome Of The Weak will become one of the major players in the metal movement.

Hailing from Germany and with a Medusa head on the cover, The Hand Of Glory is very intimidating to stumble upon. Kicking off the 9 song album is "Built For Death". The song is very heavy and actually has some darker elements to it which builds the albums themes very well.

The next song "Carry The Weight Of The World" is very reminiscent of old As I Lay Dying. Minimal clean vocals and very metalcore. "Fractures" stays along those lines as well as the third song. "Break The Illusion" is a headbangers and dancers dream song. With breakdowns and riffing, the song is sure to get the crowd moving. "Red Tides" has a heavy clean chorus which shows off the vocals of the singer quite well. The same producer who did The Sorrow's albums also produced this one and it shows. He really know how to bring out the memorable chorus out of metal bands when they're called for it.

"Inside This Empty Shell" is an acoustic interlude which is very Killswitch Engage like and adds mood and ambiance to the album. "Fall Upon The Tragedy" gets back to raw aggression of the album with its melodic riffing, breakdowns and memorable clean chorus. "We Are The Walking Dead" is a bit heavier yet with at times, death metal influence, an awesome gang chant at the end make sit a great live song. "To The Night" closes the album very well as it summarizes all the musical styles heard previously on the album.

Verdict:
If you dig ANY kind of melodic metal, this will be for you. With comparisons to everyone from Bullet For My Valentine to As I Lay Dying, these guys are serious and won't stop until they're taking over the states.

1. You're a relatively new band just forming in July of 2010. How did the band come about and form?

The band formed when Evan, Brian, and Justin organized a jam session for a new project we wanted to create. We tried out multiple singers and after a long string of auditions found a match for the band. Danny has been with us ever since and that’s how Epitome of the Weak came to be.

2. You guys have your "Shallow Tides" album being released on March 4th, what can people expect from it?

What people can expect is something different with a lot of variety from heavy riffs to melodic leads.

3. How is the new bassist search coming along?

We’re holding auditions in early March after our CD is released. Hopefully, we will have a full lineup shortly after then.

4. What was the recording process like for recording "Shallow Tides"?

It was a long and strenuous process that took several weeks to get the sound and quality we were looking for, but we had a lot of fun in the process and the experience helped us grow as a band.

5. You guys have an upcoming show with Like Moths To Flames (Rise Records). Is there any show so far that you've played that's just stuck out as being your favorite?

That’s a hard one…it would have to be between Rocktoberfest and the ABACABB Farewell Show because the crowd was fucking awesome and we nailed our set perfectly for both shows.

6. What's your favorite song off the "Shallow Tides" album? Why's that?

Danny: “That’s kind of tough for me; I’m at a toss up between Rising Sun and Relapse because Relapse really encompasses that heavy and melodic vibe that we go for, but Rising Sun is my favorite song vocally because I can really connect to the lyrics.”

Justin: “My favorite song is Rising Sun because I feel that it’s our most well composed song and is one of my favorites to play. Also, it was heavily influenced by one of my favorite bands, Killswitch Engage.”

Brian: “Consecrated Voyage is my favorite because it sounds so different than any other song on the EP and I got to project a lot of my melodic influences in writing it.”

Evan: “The song I like the most on Shallow Tides is definitely Relapse because it is both heavy and melodic at the same time. I wrote the drums around my musical influences from Maiden to Lamb of God which I feel really gives it a nice ring.”

7. What are some of your influences?

Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage, All That Remains, Iron Maiden, Bullet For My Valentine, Soilwork, Pink Floyd, Dream Theater, Avenged Sevenfold, Born of Osiris, As I lay Dying, Decapitated, Pantera, Amon Amarth, Veil of Maya, It Dies Today, Chimera, Slipknot

…just to name a few.

8. How did the artwork of "Shallow Tides" come about?

The concept behind “Shallow Tides” is that people in general never really live their lives to the fullest, but instead just coast through life with shallow expectations that are put in front of them. Therefore, they live as they die in the shallow tides and never truly explore the ocean that is life. That is the concept of “Shallow Tides”.

9. Justin just formed a side project called "Horizon". Could you tell us more about it?

Justin: “I started the project for a few reasons; one of which was to get use out of a drum program that I spent a lot of money on. Secondly, was to better increase my knowledge of studio engineering and the recording process. Finally, I wanted to experiment with different types of music to better shape myself as a musician and broaden my experience with all different styles of metal.”

10. What's next for Epitome Of The Weak?

We are hoping to spread our music to a national/international level, put out a full-length album, and go on tour.

11. Any shout outs?

We would like to thank all of our friends, family, and fans that have helped and supported us along the way. We would also like to thank Tyler Greene and Outerloop Presents for booking us on a majority of our shows and opening up a lot of opportunities for us.

1. How did you guys come together? How did the name come about?

Except of our drummer everyone of us has been in a band before. We often hung out and decided to make music together. Then we found our drummer on the Internet and started to write songs. The story behind our name is really funny, but in short: We went to a band contest we wanted to see and in the end our two guitarists almost got arrested because of something they didn't even do and our bass player also got lost on this evening. In the end everything went smooth, but we "almost failed"!

2. How would you best describe your sound to a new listener?

It's always a tricky thing to describe your own sound, most of the bands would now say that their music can't be put in any genre but c'mon there is always a genre that describes it the best. Melodic Hardcore with an idea behind it would be the best description.

3. What can people expect from your upcoming album? Is it titled yet?

We wouldn't call it an album because it will only contain of six songs, but it will definitively be a fast one with intense breakdowns combined with catchy melodies and some sing-along parts. There is no title for it yet, but by July when we are going to record the EP there will be one.

4. Being from Austria, what's the music scene there like? Any thoughts on touring in the US?

In Austria it's very hard to make it as a metal or hardcore band, because the music scene here doesn't really give shit about this kind of genre! And that's sad, 'cause there are many bands in this country that have great potential and just can't develop. For this reason we already talked about touring the US and right now we are planning everything for the tour, but we do not have the exact dates yet.

5. You guys just released the track "Playing With Wolves". How has the response been thus far?

Response has been pretty good so far. We didn't expect so many positive comments and likes in this small period of time we have this song online.

6. What can people expect from a Almost Failed live show?

People coming to one of our shows can expect 5 people standing on stage giving 200% and playing as if there lives would depend on this show!

7. Who are some of your influences?

Bands like Gallows, Bring Me The Horizon, Your Demise , Defeater, While She Sleeps, Architects, to name a few.

8. You guys have an upcoming show with More Than A Thousand. Has there been any crazy shows thus far? If so, what happened?

Yeah we are really proud to share the stage with these guys! One of our craziest shows was at Posthof, Linz. During our last song we went off the stage to play in the midst of the crowd and all the people went wild moshed and even made a circle-pit around us, that was pretty insane!

9. What are you guys currently listening to?

"Long time no news from the maple room front. Well yea, it’s true, we haven’t been up to much lately. Since the release of our newest album ‘Cities of hunger’ last April we have played some cool shows, got on TV and got some airplay but things didn’t work out the way we wanted it to. At this moment we feel we have done all we could as a small band from Belgium, we’re getting older and don’t feel the same way as 7 years ago, when we started this band. No one in the band regrets anything what we’ve done so far and we sure as hell didn’t expect all this was possible when we started to rehearse with the maple room. We are very proud of all the things we have done, we are very grateful. Until now we have played over 450 shows in Belgium, Holland, France, Germany, Portugal, Sweden, UK and China! We played Graspop Metal Meeting, Pukkelpop, Groezrock and tons of other festivals. We toured with/supported bands such as Alexisonfire, Bullet for my valentine, Lost Prophets, Channel Zero, Funeral for a friend, Silverstein, From First to last, From Autumn to Ashes, Boy sets fire, Stretch Arm Strong, Aiden, 18 Visions, Coheed and Cambria and many more. We ended 3rd in Limbomania Popconcours, got airplay on the radio in and outside Belgium, shot musicvideos, got on TV, … played venues like AB, Trix, VK, 013, Goudvishal, Batofar, Tivoli, Melkweg, … to make a long story short; we feel we have done all we could. We feel that at this moment in time there’s nothing big bound to happen for the band. We are fucking proud of our latest album, it’s gotten the best reviews.

We have decided to put the band to rest for the time being. Times have changed, we’re older and our opinions and attitude towards the scene and music business is way different than 7 years ago. We played our last show last weekend in Aartselaar, we didn’t want to make a fuzz about it. We will not be playing a ‘definitive’ goodbye show or consider this a ‘split-up’ because we will probably play again somewhere, sometime … god knows when. We don’t want to be one of those bands playing a goodbye show and re-unite again in 2 years. We’ll see what the future brings, we’ll play again when we feel good about it, when people want to see us live again. We might pop up here or there, who knows.

Of course we want to thank all the bands we’ve played with and all those people who stood by us all those years, who helped us out in any kind of way. It’s just too many to name but a few people need a big thumbs up: René Dzintar, Jef Van Doninck, Roel Verheyen, Marcus Deblaere, Bert Terweduwe, Bart Van Heuckelom, Johan Quinten, Brian Eccles, Sam Whatley, Koen Cornelis, Thomas Hauttekeete, HennyH, Jelle Van Rethy and Jef Vreys. 1. You guys formed back in 2005, having the experience you have now, are things any easier than they were in the earlier days?

Randall: Well as you go through the years you learn what works and what doesn't work. I think the easier thing for us nowadays is touring and being better organized. When we started out we didn't have the contacts and resources as we have now.

2. You recorded with Sky Van Hoff (Machinemade God, Caliban), how did the recording process go? How did the awesome artwork come about?

Jappo: The recording process was very very awesome and a bit difficult to be honest. Only in part because there was a line-up change during the time of recording. Tom was the singer for the band and decided to leave to provide a better commitment to his family. We picked up John and he hit the ground running but there was a bit of a break during the time Tom left and the time John joined so it delayed the record for some time. The artwork was originally going to be done by Mike D. of Killswitch Engage but we collectively felt that it did not represent want we wanted to have on the cover. We then decided to ask Juan Franco to do the artwork because he had done such an awesome job on a shirt design from us but again it wasn't what we were really looking for. So then Sky's girlfriend Julia surprised us all and came up with the artwork that you now see on the album. We felt that the Medusa had a great representation of the album concept and title "Break The Illusion".

3. You guys have shared the stage with big name acts such as Slayer, Sepultura and Trivium to name a few. Was there a show you played that you'll never ever forget? What happened?

John: Well sharing the stage with big name acts like that is just an awesome feeling in itself. Some of those bands are childhood heroes for us, but if we'd have to pick one that we'll never forget it would have to be Rockarea Festival last summer. It was a lot of hanging out with the Sepultura dudes, getting photos with Entombed, Sacred Reich, and Napalm Death. And our merch guy "The Dude" was tackling everybody like in those Terry Tate commercials. Of course we were all intoxicated so that always raised the level of craziness!!!

4. How did the name THE HAND OF GLORY come about?

Jappo: Well the name came from Tom our former singer. The story behind the name is that it's a dried and pickled left hand from someone who had died in the gallows. The hand was then formed so that a candle could be placed inside and then was used to cast a sort of spell and render motionless all persons to who it was presented. At the time the band was formed George W. Bush was in office and America was then deeply involved in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. We chose the name because it fit with the message we were trying to get across. It's as if people were put under a spell and nobody cared that hundreds of people were dying each day in a war that should have never been waged.

5. What's your favorite song off the album? What's the crowd favorite?

Chris: We think "Break The Illusion" is a favorite from all of us. It deals with a pretty intense subject having two of our members who were in the US Army at the time America invaded Iraq. We have friends that are still over in Afghanistan and Iraq and we hope for their safe return back to their loved ones. I think it's also the favorite one from the crowd. They get pretty crazy on that one!

6. Your music has a underlying deeper message to it, what's your views on what's going on in Egypt right now?

Sascha: We think the people are standing up for what they believe in and that's a good thing. It's a shame that peaceful demonstrations turn out to be violent and we hope that the violence will resolve itself. The people have spoken and the world is listening! We just hope the outcome will be a peaceful one and the President of Egypt will step down.

7. What three bands would you love to tour with? Any thoughts on coming to the US?

John: We would love to tour with Darkest Hour, As I Lay Dying, and In Flames. Also would be cool would be At The Gates and Himsa but they are no longer around. We are planning to go to the US next year in the spring. It would be cool because myself and Randall are both from the states and road trips in America are always awesome!!!

8. You guys have a headlining tour coming up in April, you guys excited to be out on the road again? Any cool stories from the road?

Randall: We are always excited to get on the road we live for that! There are so many cool stories but I think the coolest thing on the road is just hanging out with friends and meeting new people.

9. What are you guys currently listening to?

Blind Witness, As I Lay Dying, Carcass, The Ghost Inside, All That Remains, Misery Signals, Heaven Shall Burn, Darkest Hour, The Sorrow, man there are so many others.

10. What’s next for The Hand Of Glory?

John: Well we have this tour coming up in April, we will also be doing a video soon. We just released our album as well so we will be supporting that pretty much this whole year. We haven't decided which song to do the video for yet that's something that we still have to decide on.

1. How did the band form? How did the name come about?

Seth Cordrey/Guitarist and Patrick Liberatore/Drummer formed Saving October. Through some contacts Seth had, we were able to lock up Dan Boyle/Bass, Ross Elliott/Guitar and Danny Scythes/Vocals. Once we got together, we hit it off and have been going strong since. The ability of all our members are just endless. We really respect each others musical talents and that's why we have been able to keep this together. Just like most bands, we kicked around thousands of names that did not fit. Many of the members are Phillies fans. From a Major League Baseball perspective, if you want to be in the fall classic you have to Save October. So SAVING OCTOBER was born.

2. Being from Delaware, which hasn't been known for any band since Boysetsfire, what's the music scene like? Are there any hurdles?

It's definitely a slow metal scene in Delaware. There are a couple promoters who have recognized this and puts on shows in the Wilmington/Newark area. They seem to get a good response with some good crowds. There are also a couple venues in southern Delaware that cater to the metal scene, so although its spread out, they are trying. The scene itself. Many local bands recognize this and try to energize the scene with more basement shows when the promoters don't have access to the venues, so I know they try.

3. "Hail The Captain" just got released back in December, how was the response to it thus far? How did the album artwork comes about?

The four songs on that EP were heavier and a more complicated type of arrangement as compared to "Cut Your Losses". "Fate Could Care Less" was written in response to some negative comments directed to the band yet at the same we kept it politically correct. "Trainwreck"'s musical arrangement was set up to give the fan an actual sense they were listening to a train motoring down a track. That was a really fun song from chugging to bells and the vocals are tremendous. "Y R U Wearing That Stupid Mansuit" is probably the bands favorite. Our drummer and guitarists do a wonderful job with this one. Its melodic and riveting. "Striking An Artery" again is melodic as well, but the musicians seem to find a way to add that breakdown that throws the song off to some degree in a very metal kind of way. And again, Danny Scythes vocals are amazing. We have a design company that has been very good to us, AI Designs, Chester Pa. Anthony Irvin is the founder of AI Designs. He along with our drummer Patrick Liberatore developed the artwork that was also used on our current Myspace background.

4. What do you want the audience to come away with at a Saving October show?

A spine tingling/mind blowing experience. Surrounded by gut wrenching breakdowns that get the metal fans in the mosh mood.

5. What's your favorite song to play live? Is there a crowd favorite?

Its got to be "Y R U wearing that Stupid Mansuit". Its probably "Slurpee's Only Cost Five Cents". That song was the first and has carried us since we started.

6. What's the recording process like? What can we expect from the new album?

Well its definitely a process. Its long and very tedious. Since the process involves scratch tracks to laying down drums tracks, guitar tracks, lead tracks, bass tracks to vocals, you see there is a lot of down time for each musician as the other is performing. And its truly a performance. Making a mistake, going back to redo and making sure its right. Band members who are not performing are helping the other members get through their parts. As each part is done. we stop, listen, make adjustments and do it again and again and again. A totally new heavier metal sound. Saving October started with some easy stuff with some breakdowns, but now we are compiling arrangements that leave the fan shocked. Filled with metal breakdowns that are just sick.

7. Who are some of your influences?

Truly our influences have been our fans. Many times we forget where we came from. We have been fans and still are with many bands. So we have to start with them. We do however like August Burns Red, A Day To Remember, Suicide Silence, For Today, Emerosa, We Came As Romans.

8. What are you guys currently listening to?

Well along with the bands we just mentioned we listen to I The Breather, A Bullet For Pretty Boy, Protest The Hero, Blessed By A Broken Heart and Bring Me The Horizon.

9. Any thoughts on a video for a song? What song would you want a video for if one could be shot?

We have considered it in the past. We will sit down and discuss it with From The Depths Entertainment and see what the logistics would be. We have some things in mind for the video like location, props. Most likely, we will go with "Y R U wearing that Stupid Mansuit".

10. What’s next for Saving October?

Wow. Our manager has been booking shows, talking and working with promoters, photographers, FTD Entertainment and studio engineers. We have several shows in four states up to April. In Feb we have our next photo shoot with PeaceTree Photography/Bear De. Then in July 2011, we will go back to the studio to begin the process of making our first full length CD. We plan on writing six new songs and remixing four of our best. We have a lot to do with this CD, but we are very excited to get this thing going.

11. Any shoutouts?

Of course we do. First we want to give a shout to From the Depths Entertainment for believing in us. Its been a short yet long road up to this point. Now our family. They have been so supportive since 09. And our friends and fans. We have seen many of the same faces come to shows both locally and as far north as Allentown, Pa. It's been great to see them. Finally we want to shout out to the many people that follow their dreams. You can do it if you want to. Continue to work hard and it will pay off.

1. How did the band and its name come about?

We came up with August Ruins because the month August has always been a defining point for the band. The founding 2 members Eric and Butchy formed the band in August of 2007. After 2 years of line-up changes and name changes the four of us formed a solid group in May of 2009 with no real name. We decided we could put out an EP, and it happened to be finished in August of 2010, when we traveled to New York City to record with Anthony Santo. We chose August Ruins after the EP was finished so we could have a fresh start and release new music under a new name.

2. How would you describe the sound to 1st time listeners?

We definitely have a melodic punk style. I guess we have a southern California punk sound!! We are all very highly influenced by post hardcore music and it shows in some of our heavier riffs and double bass, but we also have a mellow side that mixes well and gives us a unique sound.

3. What can we expect from the EP, “The Ghost and the Gasoline?”

This EP was a taste of things to come. It was our first lesson together as a band, and we really learned a lot from the experience. For average listeners the album can be quite diverse. Guitar solos, double bass, in your face vocals…the EP has the whole package in my opinion. Some songs are faster paced and more intense, and others are more relaxed and heartfelt. All I can say is, just wait.

4. The album artwork is very unique we hear, what was your inspiration behind it?

Our tattoo guy is doing it for us. Hes an awesome dood and a great artist and we wanted to see what he could come up with for us. We still haven’t seen it, and we are really excited to. When its finished we will find out the artists inspiration and let you know.

5. Eric and Butchy are brothers, how does the family loyalty stay balanced in such a cutthroat business?

Coming from Kory, (the 1 typing this) I can say it definitely gets interesting sometimes. Because they are brothers and are so close, they are not afraid to take it out on one another every once in awhile. Its never anything more than bickering and verbal nonsense jabbered back and forth, and for Bean and I its quite amusing. More so than they fight, they collaborate and that’s how we get things done.

6. Who are three bands you guys love to tour with in the future?

Rise Against, NOFX, Bullet for my Valentine

7. What are some of your influences? How did you get into California punk?

Our influences are endless. Face to Face, NOFX, Bad Religion and other punk of course. We all had our metal phases too, but who didn’t?? Eric and Kory both pursue degrees in music at the University of Pittsburgh and are highly influenced by classical music theory. Slash is Eric’s primary inspiration for lead guitar, and it shows in his playing. The point is…we love music. We are inspired by classical music to metal and everything in between.

8. What is a typical August Ruins show like?

From our perspective shows are awesome. We like to keep the stage a very high energy place to be. It keeps the crowd interested and its fun.

9. How is the scene like out in Pittsburgh?

Terrible but its getting better. Theres not many local bands anymore, and to make things worse there aren’t many venues anymore. Pittsburgh needs help in the local music scene.

10. What’s next for August Ruins?

We are going on TOUR even if we gotta beg for gas money to get from town to town, and we are putting out a full length album… just wait.

1. How was your New Years? You guys have been playing music for a few years now, does anything become easier as time passes by (not getting nervous before shows, tour booking, mixing your own material, etc)?

Fine. Some of us were on the road having a party and some of us were just too tired after the Xmas tour :) Well of course some things are so much easier today. We have plenty of people doing great jobs for us such as booking etc. We are producing our stuff on our own. We know how to use the digital-media right. I guess the only thing that could make us nervous today is a crowd bigger than 5000 people.

2. Your remix album came out a few days ago, how did the concept of a remix album of "Collisions" come about? How's the response been to it this far?

After "Collisions" was released we had the idea to remix the whole album - song by song on our own. It was soon clear that we wouldn't have the chance to do it cause we were pretty much on the road the whole time playing shows, producing a video and we are already working on the next album. So we came up with the idea to ask friends and people we met on the road to do some remixes. The best results are on that CD and the response is awesome.

3. What's your favorite song to play live and why? Is there a crowd favorite? If so, what is it?

To me it's "Jasmin W. Knows How To Mosh". It shows HSF at its best and it has this part in the middle which is perfect to let the crowd do a circle pit.

4. How did the name "His Statue Falls" come about?

This name existed since 2003 and it was taken because it didnt appear in the web :) Maybe it means that everything is fading, and you can never be sure that the good times stay..

5. What are some of your influences growing up and influences now? Do you incorporate any of it into your music?

Good one.. we all listen to different kinds of music. Christoph is into Pop music and Techno of the 90s. The rest is listening to a mix of Acoustic, Rock, Punk, any kind of Core and Hip Hop. Maybe you can hear that in HSF but we just try to play whatever we enjoy playing.

6. What's the music scene like over there in Germany? Any thought in coming over here in the US?

The scene is really small. Most people here are into Indie Rock and chart stuff I guess. But the guys and girls in our scene are very dearly and we are well connected. WE'D LOVE TO TOUR THE US!!! But it's not easy for a German band, at all. We need a label/management/distribution over there or someone has to rob Fort Knox for us :)

7. You guys are playing shows soon with Bionic Ghost Kids, Dancing At My Disco, and Shadow Of The Fate. What's the craziest show you guys ever played? What happened?

To be honest, we are just stunned on every show. there are so many nice little stories. We enjoy being who and where we are and what we're allowed to do as a band. We love being with other people and well I hit the wall one show and blood was running all over my face and had to go to the hospital afterwards. Not funny for me but for everyone else :)

8. How does the writing process come about? Has anything new been written for the next album?

Often it's Christoph coming up with some synthie ideas but we also jam in the rehearsal room. Yes. We are in the progress. 5 songs done :)

9. If you could tour with three bands, who would they be?

Ace Augustine - Strike First (Facedown) Records - "Rising from the same fertile Pennsylvania grounds as August Burns Red and Once Nothing, Ace Augustine take their musical cues from the style they naturally grew into. Ace Augustine play solid, technical metal mixed with hardcore elements influenced by not only their Lancaster, PA spearheads, but also by various indie acts. The band released their first EP The Glory of Trumpets in 2009, and are set to release their debut full-length on Strike First Records in early 2011."

The Bridal Procession - S.O.A.R Records (UK) - Hailing from France, The Bridal Procession is a death metal band described as "somewhere in between the realms of Vader, Dimmu Borgir, and Nile." Their debut will be available digitally in December, with a CD coming in February.

Shaped By Fate - S.O.A.R Records (UK) - Shaped By Fate is a Welsh metal/hardcore outfit. Shaped By Fate's new album will surface in March.

1. How did the band get together? How did the name "All Sufferings" come about?

To be completely honest, one day in August of 2009, we thought it would be a cool idea to start a little music project. And so we did. We had no idea it would get anywhere near as far as it is now. I had been making electronic music for a year already at the time, so I knew how I wanted the band to sound. I wanted to start an industrial group ever since the discovery of Dawn of Ashes and Nine Inch Nails. The name, we sat around at DJ's computer and we were trying to think of a name. We wanted something dark, but in 2 words. DJ's wallpaper was a collage of words. He found "Suffering" and "All". Put them together and he got All Sufferings. I liked the name so much, that as soon as I got home I reserved www.allsufferings.com

2. You guys just had your first show. How did it go?

Despite major technical difficulties (as we were told, most bands go through on the first show), we found a way around them and played the show anyway. We were half out the door to cancel the show because of the difficulties. We had an amazing show. And the sound and light technician was very nice to us and allowed us to use his fog machine for a truly epic stage.

3. What can people expect from an All Sufferings live show?

At an All Sufferings show, you're going to want to stand up. Because the bass will shake you out of your chair anyway.

4. How does the recording process go for the upcoming EP? What do you want people to take away from the EP?

Well all the recording is done on the computer (both Windows side and Macintosh side). Considering most of the music is sequenced, not much is needed to be recorded for each song. We have a personal recording studio in which we do the vocals for each song over and over and then pick which take was best. We then lay that over top of our sequenced music. Pack it into an mp3 and ship it out. Our upcoming EP, we just want our fans to have fun with the music. It's danceable.

5. You guys are a fairly new band, what's some of your goals for the upcoming year?

We want to book as many shows as we can before the EP. Then after we get a small fan base, set up a small tri-state tour. We also want to introduce the locals to the industrial scene. Northampton is all into the hip hop and metal scene. We want to bring what we like into the town.

6. What's your thoughts about the current state of industrial music?

Industrial music is underestimated, hated, and yet unknown by most. I do think it will become mainstream at some point in time. But right now, it's pretty much unknown to most. We really hope more people will discover industrial.

7. What is your take on illegal music downloading?

I think music downloading is a great way to discover music and see if you like the artist and song. But if you like what you hear, buy an album. Support the artist to help them continue what they are doing and motivate them to do more with the music.

8. What are some of your influences?

Dawn of Ashes, A day to remember, Psyclon Nine, Slipknot, Grendel, Bullet for My Valentine, Noizezzor, Primary Sector.

9. What's next for All Sufferings?

Lots of shows, a demo and EP.

10. Any shoutouts?

Yeah. Our parents, Noizezzor, Primary Sector, Karli.

1. How did you get your start with hip hop? What albums inspired you starting out?

I started out making cassette tapes in my parents basement just writing, rapping and trying to craft decent songs. I've been writing since I was 10 so I knew I could write, but the question was 'Could I RAP?'. It took years and years of practice and countless, loud, nauseating nights trying to nail it. Once I felt I was advancing, I linked up with another dude from Philly named Logic and he kinda took me under his wing and helped me better hone my flow, taught me about metaphors, syllables, breath control and that type of thing. We then started making songs, and later on, albums. Looking back, they weren't very good, but at the time it was fun. Years passed, we lost touch, and so I decided to strike out on my own and it just kept escalating to where I'm at now. As for the albums that inspired me, I primarily remember Nas 'God's Son' and Canibus' '2000 B.C.' being very influential. You could say I had two of the best teachers! haha

2. Why did you choose the name Boo Diddly? How did you think of it?

I've had probably a dozen or more names since I started, but to be honest, I never thought any of them really fit me. I was about to release my mixtape 'They're Going To Want Me Dead' and I needed a name to go with it because the one I had didn't really fit and it really wasn't supposed to be permanent. My other names were like hotels. Hotels have pretty much everything you have at your house. A bed, lamps, a shower, sometimes a couch, but it's still not your HOME. It's not something you can truly call your own. My other names felt like hotels to me. They were just something to use for a little while until I found something more comfortable. Boo Diddly is MY home. It was taken from the Mario Brothers (SMB3) video game. I forget what I was doing, I think just looking around on the internet, and then I saw a picture of the Boo Diddly ghost. I already knew his name and liked him so I was just like 'THAT'S IT! BOO DIDDLY!' and it's stuck ever since and I love it. It's everything to me.

3. You just released your highly anticipated album "DU.94" a few weeks ago, how has the response been thus far?

The response has been really good! So far it's doing way better than my other releases have. I think it's because I really took my time with it. If people only KNEW how long and late I would stay up just to perfect it! haha It was definitely a labor of love. It took a little over a year to write, record and complete, but when I was done, I was very, very happy with the way it came out. It's easily the best original album of 2010, hands down. Easily!

4. The album artwork for "DU.94" is very unique. What was the inspiration behind the cover?

Well, I wanted something different, but natural. Some people want different, just BECAUSE it's different, but it won't really pertain to them and says very little, if anything, about them or the music. I wanted something that said something about me, but was different all together. I didn't want the stereo typical rap cover of just me or my face on there with my name and that's it. To me that's bland and has been done to death. The album cover and album in general, to me represents 'Colonization'. Everything on there from the guns, to the airplanes, to the map, to the Euro notes, to the crow, represents ME. EVERYTHING. There's not one thing on there that doesn't say SOMETHING about me. I couldn't sit here and honestly say that, if there were things on there that had nothing to do with me. One of my major sources of inspiration for it though was the Haitian flag, so I definately incorporated some elements of it in there but still kept it 100% me. Like, I said, it represents 'Colonization'.

5. What is your take on the current scene of hip hop?

Current Hip-Hop is what it is. Do I support it? Sure, Hip-Hop is what I am. Am I A Fan? Only to an extent. Hip-Hop is great but I don't like the repetitive nature of it. One thing that always disappoints me is the lack of originality. It also has the tendency to out date itself really quick and that makes for a really horrible mix. Very few artists now a days are putting out albums that really push the boundaries or stand the test of time. Kanye's doing his thing and although I've never owned any of his albums, from what I've seen and heard, he's doing a good job. He's different. I'm not his biggest fan, but I appreciate his knack for making something great. It just saddens me that people are content with what the last man did, and so they duplicate it. I'm still young, yea, but I've studied Hip-Hop. So when albums don't sound like they used to, I can tell.

6. You have international hip hop influences in your music, what does the music from overseas bring to the table?

Good Hip-Hop from overseas is great. I like a lot of artists from Europe. I've even done a couple of songs with artists' from Spain and they seem to have a good appreciation for Hip-Hop as does a lot of other places in Europe. I mean, in certain areas it still seems to be pretty underground over there, especially in eastern Europe, but that doesn't stop their passion for it. I like a lot of artists from Spain, France and Germany but I rep Hungary, too. Can't forget about my Magyars! haha I also like some Dominican Hip-Hop and some South American Hip-Hop artists' as well. Actually, I'm working on a collaboration with my friend Itam from Chile right now, so look out for that in the future, and check him out as well!

7. What are you currently listening to?

A variety of stuff. The new Nessbeal, EPMD's 'Business As Usual', I'm really psyched for the new Bring Me The Horizon album. They never fail. They're a great band and put on a great show. I listen to myself from time to time, but I usually don't listen to myself too too much. haha. Not that I think I'm bad, it's just because I spent the last year, year and a half cutting down the record so why would I want to hear it again right after I just finished it? hahaha.

8.Some of your songs are very personal ("The Homecoming", "Take It
Further"), what was the writing process like for those songs in
particular?

Songs like that are a natural occurrence. I probably couldn't FORCE myself to knowingly write them, like, 'your GOING to write a heart felt song, whether you like it or not!', even if I really wanted to. I just heard the beats, zoned out, and wrote down EXACTLY how I was feeling at the time. From what I remember, those two came really easy to me, too. It was what I was feeling, HOW I was feeling. When I heard the beats, there was no mistake, those songs were MEANT to be written. Everything those songs encompassed was exactly how I was feeling.

9. If someone was to come to a Boo Diddly show, what should they expect?

Well, for starters, a great Hip-Hop performance. With 'DU.94' being how it is, I'm not going to be satisfied until I'm literally killing myself on stage. Expect a lot of passion, energy and emotion. Rappers now a days tend to lack that. It kinda seems like they forgot how to perform. And since I brought originality back with 'DU.94', I'm going to bring back the essence & originality of what it's actually like to PERFORM and not just stand up on stage in the mix of 15 other dudes who don't even rap. That's just dumb. I'm there to entertain the audience, MY audience, NOT put them to sleep. hahaha

10. What's next for Boo Diddly?

I can't tell you too much, but the writing process doesn't ever really stop. I could never abandon being an author. Life is odd like that. You could say, 'Ok, I'm not going to write any more songs' but you'll catch yourself doing it sooner or later, even though you said you wouldn't. Creativity doesn't just turn itself off when you want it to, so you have to embrace it for what it is. If I felt the urge to and my mind was in the right mode, I could easily punch out another album. I've done it. Sure it never got released, but it's not like it wasn't solid material. The timing just wasn't right for it. But to say the least, I've been plotting and planning a little bit, but for now, it's all about 'DU.94' and pushing that. It deserves it.

First I want to shout out God because he has kept me going and has helped me stay rather patient these past few years. Secondly, June-June for helping me stay sane and for keeping me motivated more than he knows.
