1. How did you get started with music and how did you develop your sound? Who thought of the name “Local Demise” and is there any meaning behind it?
We all started playing music from a very young age. All of us were exposed to playing instruments through family members. Travis and Dave have kin who were in bands back in the day and passed the tradition on to them. (Adam) I started playing drums when I was 5 and switched to guitar around 12 being influenced by my father and brother. It just came natural. In high school Travis asked me to fill in on drums for his previous band for a party. I told him I couldn't really play but I'd try. Unbeknownst to all of us I was pretty good. Trav and our former founding member Mike decided the best thing to do was to start a new band. I asked to play lead and sing instead of drumming. The response was "well can you?". So we found another drummer and settled on the name "Local Demise" which we picked off of a list I jotted down in math class.
The meaning? LOCAL DEMISE (ADJ.)- The ungoverned downfall of any person, place, pliable object, society, species or industry in a centralized location. As for our sound we all had a similar taste in punk rock and thrash metal so I guess we mixed that up with hardcore attitude in our riffs and catchy lyrics bing bang ba-da boom. Our sound is constantly evolving so its not uncommon for us to just bust out a sick metal thrash jam instrumental at any given time. Our influences are very wide ranged.
2. What do you want listeners to take away from your music?
A good feeling that rock is still alive and well. Influence to create art and follow your dreams.
3. How would you describe your music to the average listener?
Hardcore thrash punk. System Of A Down meets old Megadeth and kicks their asses. Loud.
4. What can people expect from your live show?
NON STOP ACTION!!
5. Who are three bands you’d like to tour with?
The Offspring, NOFX, and System Of A Down.
6. Any crazy show stories?
So many. We did have a six foot tall plush dinosaur made as a mascot for the "Learning Disability" Album. For about three months we hand painted a 3D cardboard cityscape that was destroyed during a one hour performance. People loved it! Just throwing cardboard everywhere and beating each other senseless with buildings. Complete mayhem with recycled materials.
7. What’s your take on the current state of metal?
Very saturated with bands that are very similar in style in which we stand out.
8. What’s the current music scene like there in the New Jersey both locally and state wide?
New Jersey is great for underground music of all genres. A lot of clubs have closed but the ones that are still kicking put on awesome shows. Trenton especially. Halfway between New York And Philly I'm surprised more artists don't take advantage of our scene though a lot of big names have come out of NJ and a lot roll through. The garden state is a lot better than the bad wrap it gets. Especially when it comes to underground independent music.
9. What’s your take on legal/illegal music downloading?
The internet ruined the music industry. I'd rather have a CD, cassette or vinyl rather than an mp3. We try to give away our music so fans can enjoy our brand of music. There's not much I can do to prevent downloading illegally. Here take it, share it, enjoy!
10. What’s next for Local Demise?
Writing a new album and hopefully a national summer tour. New merch, new jams and new people to hang with.
