1. How did the band get together and form?

This is a long story, but I’ll try to give you a short version.
In Winter of 99, Julius, Florian and our drummer Simon started playing music together. A few weeks later I joined them and we founded a band. I remember in the beginning we played songs from Blink 182 and some punk rock bands, but we soon did our own stuff. About two years later our singer decided to concentrate on shouting and Simon our bass player joined us. Because our music has gotten another direction and we got rid of our old band name, we gave the band a new name, “Descend To Rise”. Up to now there has been no lineup changes, but our music more and more turned into that metalcore-screamo-thing we do now. In retrospective I can say, that it was very positive for the progress of the band that we all are friends and share more than music.

2. You guys just released your album “Behind The Infinite Scenes”, a little while ago, how has the reaction been to it?

The reactions are very positive so far. We already got some reviews for it and are pleased to see, that the people like it. We tried out some new things, especially concerning songwriting techniques and we didn’t know how the response would be. Obviously it paid off :-D.

3. How does the writing process come together?

Usually we try to write songs little by little until we have enough songs to record. But last year we were forced to schedule an intensive songwriting phase because the studio time was booked and we didn’t have enough songs for a full length record. So we started to work on new songs and finally we managed it within a month. Although it has been a hard time with countless very long nights this amazingly didn’t compromise the quality of the songs produced within that period. We always try to write songs all together based on some ideas. This takes much times, but we do it always that way, it works for us.

4. The cover art for the new album is really cool, how did that come about? Is that a real location?

Thank you, we’re happy with this artwork too. We thought about the artwork for a long time because we wanted the title to be clarified by the artwork. The title tells us something about the world around us, which appears to be infinite and something that takes places even behind all the things we consider. That’s a big challenge for a designer, but in my opinion Simon did a good job with this artwork. The location is a compositing of many photos, so it doesn’t really exist.

5. How is the music scene over there in Germany?
Within the last years the Germany hardcore and metal scene has grown a lot and it’s good to see more and more bands coming up and people visiting the shows and we are proud to be a part of it. This also means that it’s getting harder to be special, but we try this by delivering our music to the crowd with lots of energy. It should be a difference between listening to music over an iPod or experience it in a live concert, and we do our best to demonstrate it.

6. What’s your take on music downloading?

For artists in general it’s a big problem that people started to download the music they like illegally instead of buying it. The production of an album is an expensive business, especially for little bands who have to bear all the costs. In fact, even a full length price of about $20 appears to be too expensive for people. Young bands need the promotion of their fans to go ahead. There is also a promotion effect in spreading music over the internet but I think there are only a few bands who really benefit from this strategy.

7. Any plans on touring the summer in support of the album?

Actually we planned to go on tour right after the release in March for about two weeks with a well known overseas band but unfortunately we had to reschedule the whole thing. So we went on a 5 day tour with a Dutch band, “The Spirit That Guides Us”. We had a good time anyway and the chance to present our new album. There’s aren’t any plans for touring around in summer because it’s always hard to find a period where no one has to write exams or something. Above all our singer Florian is going to marry this summer so I think we’ll play as many shows as we can but a tour isn’t in the works.

8. Are there any Germany based bands we should check out?

Definitely. There are a lot of bands we know as our friends playing good music. You definitely should check out “A Fight Called Hope”, “World To Ashes”, “Lasting Traces” and of course all the bands on Guideline Records.

9. What are you guys currently listening to?

Underoath, Norma Jean, Relient K, MXPX, Killswitch Engage, The Almost, Taking Back Sunday and Thrice are some of the bands we’re currently listening to. We aren’t exclusively focused on hardcore and metal but open minded about getting influenced by different kinds of music.

10. What’s next for Descend To Rise?

At the moment we’re looking for opportunities to present out new album to all the hardcore kids out there. We’re also thinking about shooting a video for one of the new songs. There aren’t any concrete steps, but I’m confident of getting by. In general we’ll try to play at bigger festivals in Germany in the future to reach a greater audience.

11. Any shoutouts?

Hey fellas check out our new stuff and make sure to get a copy of our brand new album!

Interviewed on: 4/21/08

1. What are your names and role in the band?

The Current Line-Up is:

Philipp Resslhuber: Drums
Jasper Elter: Vocals
Jan Knackstedt: Bass
Dennis Thiele: Guitar
Florian Kuhlmann: Guitar

2. How did you guys come up with the name "A Traitor Like Judas"?

We don't really remember who came up with the idea back then. Actually there is not a deeper meaning behind the name or something, we just liked the name. Sometimes we are asked if we have a Christian background because of the name, but that is wrong!!!

3. How is the new album coming along? When can we expect it? Is it named?

The album is coming along really well and we plan to release it in autumn. We don't have a name yet, but I can tell you that it will sound quiet different than the last record. We got a new guitar player and a new singer since the release of our last record, and of course the lineup affected the songwriting process and the sound a lot. We also changed the guitar tuning, so yeah...some people will be surprised I guess!

4. Being from Germany, how is the music scene over there?

I would call it ok, I think. Of course the big hype with all these kids on Myspace acting like rockstars also appears in Germany. But we also have a lot of really cool and hardworking bands over here, many kids that are doing shows, supporting each other, stuff like that.

5. You hooked up with Goodlife Recordings, how did that come about?

We played a Festival in Belgium where the Goodlife Crew saw our set, and so they decided to sign us. Simply as that!:-)

6. You guys have a big tour coming up, you guys excited?

Yeah! We are really looking forward to our upcoming tours. We haven't played any shows for 6 weeks now, so it's time to get on the road again!

7. If you could tour with any three bands, who would they be?

Hm....I would definitely choose Tool first, being able to watch their stage performance every night would be awesome! I would also choose Necrophagist and Iced Earth.Haha, that would be a cool package!

8. You guys played with a ton of national acts, any good show stories?

What happens on tour, stays on tour!;-)

9. What are you currently listening to?

Right now on heavy Rotation: Arsis, Dark Funeral, Rwake, City And Sounds

10. What's next for A Traitor Like Judas?

We'll be on tour a few days next month, afterwards we will play some cool festivals in the summer, and then we'll be on tour nearly the whole autumn in Spain, Portugal,Denmark the UK and many other countries!

11. Any shoutouts?

Thanks for your interest, see you on the road!

1. First & foremost, I just want to say that your work ethic is nothing shy of 'just plain crazy'! You guys had your debut album drop last year, you've gone through multiple line-up changes, and it seems that you guys have constantly been touring in support of 'The Very Air We Breathe'. I'm curious to know, where as most bands would have given up already, you guys have continued to persist & grow. What exactly keeps you going?

I'm not sure if you can swear in this interview but the band's core motto has been and will always be "fuck adversity." And to be blunt, its exactly what we've had to do to be where we are today. Our label and management is excited as we are about our upcoming album, the line up we have now was meant to write this record, and we could not be more thrilled. Many of our fans and people who work in the industry dont know the amount of obstacles we have had to cross over, its been quite a journey and we cant wait to see where it leads us next.

2. Now, I caught you guys down in Philadelphia back in October 2007 on The Bayside Tour & besides a couple sound malfunctions [which can only be attributed to the venue], you were all really good and very much on point. As you guys tour across the States, how has crowd reception been since when you first were coming out? Are a lot more people catching on?

The band's first real tour was with Mayday Parade, Dear Whoever and Crash Romeo, since then, we have developed a strong response from touring all over the country. At that point people only knew us as the new Victory band and had never really listened to us, that tour set the tone for where we are today. The Victory Records tour was also amazing for us, it allowed all different types of crowds to see us and appreciate what we do, and they enjoy watching us live.

3. With that being said, I’m going to ask what you what EVERYONE wants to know! Have you guys been working on anything new & when can we hear it?! I, for one, Am curious because with new faces [line-up changes], comes new ideas!

Since the current line-up has been together (January) we have been on the road constantly, and it has been difficult to write, however now that we are home, ideas are flowing like water, look to hear a very mature, and catchy sophomore record with a lot of meaning behind it, not a record that we are less than proud of. We will put out a couple demos from the record once we get a chance to get them recorded, we are extremely excited about it!!

4. Who or what are some of your biggest inspirations when it comes to your personal lives? Like, what helps you through your day-to-day existence?

Other than music, the support of our family and friends. When the road gets hard on everyone, we start to rely on each other, and our friends from other bands we are out on the road with. Touring is such a heartfelt community, everyone knows that bands don't do this for the money, we do this because we love to tour. Because we share this common outlook, we inspire each other to be better people and better musicians.

5. If you could have one dream ‘job’ BESIDES being in a band, what would it be? It can be anything! From an elementary school teacher, to a city bus driver, to even being a contestant on ‘Americas Next Top Model’!!!

We all would want to be Brewster in "Brewster's Millions" because we would get paid to spend money!!!

6. If given 24 hours to live and a million dollars in cash, what would YOU do with your last final hours?

We would live in the 500,000 sq ft marsh mellow house that we just built.

7. How do you rate/view todays ‘scene’? Does it seem that most kids now are more concerned with style over substance or vice versa? OR is it even a ‘toss-up’? How would you compare it to years of past?

There is a different scene in every city we play in, and that scene also depends on what bands we tour with, some are extremely welcoming and accepting of our style, and some aren't, we would rather not spend our time trying to impress those who don't accept our style, rather we would want them to be curious about us and find out for themselves, we understand the whole elitist click and how it all works, we just want to tour and have fun and we want everyone to have fun with us to be completely honest. We've all been touring for a long time now that we personally dont care about how a band looks, as apposed to how they sound, because all we do is sit in a van and listen. Although the music industry is more of a fashion show to a lot of people now, I think everyone who likes music has a pair of ears that can decide for them if they like a band or not.

8. It seems nowadays that collaborations between different bands and their singers is becoming quite the norm all of a sudden again. Who would you absolutely LOVE to link-up with to work on a song with?

We love bands like the Dear Hunter, Saves The Day, Jimmy Eat World, and just about every band we've toured with. It would be sweet to have any of those singers come in for some guest vocals, if it enhances our sound in the song, we would be grateful..

9. Was there ever a band you guys played with, who you were really big fans of, but they turned out to be a bunch of jerks? We’re not asking you to name any names, we’re just curious? If so, Have your opinions changed much about them?

We've run into a couple situations where a band would bail out on a tour in the middle of it, but never any bad blood, just puts us in a hard spot and sets another obstacle in front of us. We have respect for anyone who we play with, we would hope for the same.

10. NOW! For my personal favorite part of the interview!!! These might seem kinda off, but its how we keep things fun! You have to choose one or the other & if you feel the need to, you can elaborate, too. Ok, ready?! Here Goes:

-Interview- Oceana 4/16/08

Oceana

Genre: Screamo/Emocore comparable to Burden Of A Day or Driverside Impact.
Interviewed on: 4/16/08
From: St Petersburg, FL
www.myspace.com/oceanafl

www.myspace.com/oceanafl

1. For those who are new to the world of Oceana, can we get a 'roll call' of who's who and what they do in the band?

Well I'm James, and I play drums and sing. Alex and Jack play guitar, Rob plays bass, and Keith is our lovely frontman.

2. Where did the name 'Oceana' come from and who thought of it/brought it to the table?

Oceana just kind of fit our habitat, being that we all live pretty much on the water in St. Pete. It was also brought up by Rob who's in love with the band Sparta. It all just fit together and we loved the sound of it!

3. How long had you guys been playing in the band when you realized 'hey! we got something here!'?

When we recorded our first two demos (Mindless and the Accountable), we were all actually blown away by the way they came out and we all just got this huge boost of confidence and we were ready right then and there to get serious. We're glad this happened because no more than 30 hours later we had a Rise contract in our hands! haha

4. When you guys stepped on stage for the first time for your first performance EVER, were you guys nervous like crazy, or more confident like, 'This is nothing! Stage fright?! Ha! not on my time!'?

Personally, I was beyond stoked and just excited really.

5. Did you guys aim to be on a respected label like Rise Records, or did it just sort of happen? How did that whole thing go down? Did you invite them out to a show Or send them a demo or what?

Rise was one of the main labels we were interested in. We started talking to them through email right after we first recorded and they decided to sign us about 30 minutes after we started talking. It was truly out of the blue and unexpected, but definitely a dream come true!

6. When I first started to research you guys, I'm not going to lie, it was love at first listen! Something even funnier is that PRIOR to buying your CD I didn't really have A sure fire definition for what 'Screamo' was, but ALAS! I KNEW after listening to your CD! Do you think that's a fair assessment?

That's an awesome assessment =)

7. Out of the whole 'The Tide' album, I'd have to say my favorite track is 'Hello, Astronaut' and I can't wait to see it performed live! Is there one key song that the crowd ALWAYS goes bananas to?

There's not really one key song, but we get a more than average response when we play "Mindless", "Reach For The Sky", and "The Tide".

8. Have you guys had any run ins with any odd fans yet? Any stories you would like to share about that?

We've been on tour for 4 months now, we've definitely met our fair share of odd people haha. Some people out there are just wacked out in the mind, but we're always down with that. Not too many stories, just some of the people we've stayed with in general have been pretty crazy

9. How are your families dealing with having sons/brothers/grandchildren/etc. Out on the road doing what they love to do, releasing CD's and touring? Are they super supportive or are they more or less kinda like 'I wish they would have taken the lawyer or doctor route!'?

They're honestly all very supportive of what we're doing, it's amazing!

10. When you guys are on the road, whats one thing that is an absolute MUST have? It could be anything! From your cellphone to an XBOX to even just a pair of clean socks! What MUST you have to maintain your sanity?

Cell phones and laptops are definitely always a must. And some sort of music device for sure. I would have flipped my wig many a time by now if it weren't for my ipod!

11. With everyone using I-Tunes and other downloading outlets, do you think music has become more disposable now, or is just as effective as it what 'X' amount of years ago?

It definitely has, but at the same time I believe that iTunes and things of that nature really help get bands way more exposure. If you can't find a cd you want at a store, the internet is always there for you

12. What are some of your influences, musically speaking, that fans might be interested to know you listen to?

We all listen to a load of different tunes and all have different influences, but it's safe to say that some of our biggest ones are As Cities Burn and Misery Signals. We get a lot of our influence though outside of listening to other bands. We get it from nature, love, our families, friends, etc.

13. If you could share the stage with any one act or artist, whether broken up, still recording or deceased, who would it be?

I would say UnderOATH, I'm not gonna lie haha.

14. You guys are really young and I think you guys got the potential to release solid album after solid album. Are you just trying to take life day by day or are you going to try to build up that rep that bands like Poison The Well & Thursday have where they can disappear for a little and come back just as strong?

Thanks! We don't have any sort of plan, but we intend on working as hard as we can for as long as we can, tour by tour, album by album. We definitely don't want to disappear whatsoever.

15. Would you like to share any last words with us and your fans?

Do what you love! Don't let anybody else tell you otherwise, and keep positive!

-Interview- For The Glory 4/15/08

For The Glory

Genre: Hardcore comparable to (old) Hatebreed or (old)Day Of Contempt.
Interviewed on: 4/15/08
From: Porto, Portugal
www.myspace.com/fortheglory

www.myspace.com/fortheglory

1. What are your names and role in the band?

Hey my name is Ricardo, I do the vocals, Sergio B plays guitar, JP plays the other guitar, Claudio plays drums and Rui Bras plays the bass.

2. Being from Portugal, how is the music scene over there?

Its really good actually in all sorts of ways, there are tons of bands and there are plenty of good ones, from pop to hip hop, metal, hardcore, punk, whatever, I think that the fact that our culture right is way more open minded to other cultures and that fact that we have really a lot of young people that started to care more about music in general.
Of course there also the Trad stuff like Fado or whatever and that is cool too. Young kids seem to be into mixing the modern sounds with the traditional shit.

3. How does the writing process occur with the band?

Well we kinda just get together in the practice room and do some tunes all together, sometimes I sing the guitar riffs, other times Sergio brings good groovie parts, but mostly we make everything together, this new record is a mix of everybodys ideas literally.

4. How did you guys come up with the name "For The Glory"?

There was this band I really like called Floorpunch, they had a song where they were saying something like "all us kids, all our stories, we come together for the glory". I really think its the name that would fit for us, we have made this band on the road, and with this band we want to share dreams and set some goals we wanted to reach, meet people, so it was perfect. it fits!

5. If you guys could tour with any three bands, who would they be?

Its a really hard question so many bands I really dig. but lets say
Madball, Ringworm, No Warning. Now 3 more Biohazard, Cro Mags, mMrauder.

6. Is there any new songs written?

Yeah we are working on 3 new songs to be recorded for a split with a German band, its sounding good. We will do things as we want, and we dont care if people will say its not hard enough or whatever, you gotta do what you like.

7. Being together since 2003, you guys have any good show stories?

Well our first show there was a huge fight, like bottles against buses, shit like it was off the hook. There are always good stories, we got this on tape I was drinking too much with Claudio in Germany and I just fell asleep in a couch in the middle of the venue and I was KO, there is this video where Sergio is getting me a sleeping bag, covering me and fixing me a pillow like a sweet dude hahaha
Apart from cops on borders and all that, there are always good stories!

8. You guys have any plans on coming over here to the US?

I was talking with Joe from Shattered Realm for while about geting us over there to play some shows, but the issue is that we dont even have a record out there, we would love to send the recordings for a label to put it out, we dont care what they will do it, we would love to go there one day, we will see how it goes, but right now Im focused on working hard to pay my bills, tour Europe, go to different places like eastern Europe, we will see.

9. What are you currently listening to?

Im listening to a lot of Portuguese hip hop, some old bands from Portugal, but most of the times I listen to my playlist that I love to when Im driving haha
No Warning, Madball, Ragmen, Merauder, Ignite, Rise and Fall, Black Friday 29, Barcode... some bands I can think of right now.

10. What's next for For The Glory?

Record those 3 new songs, playing as much as we can, just hanging out, make everything work with our personal issues, and that is it.
we will get our "Survival Of The Fittest" CD pressed in Brazil as well as in Europe by a German label with more exposure, then next year we will go to Brazil! Crazyyyyy....

11. Any shoutouts?

Thank you very much for this interview and the time you gave us to speak about ourselves, we def want to go to the states and we def want to get our record out there, so labels get in touch baby..
Be safe.

-Interview- In Irons 4/14/08

In Irons
(Holdfast Records)

Genre: Melodic hardcore in the vein of It Prevails or Life In Your Way.
Interviewed on: 4/14/08
From: Huntsville, AL
www.myspace.com/inirons

www.myspace.com/inirons

1. What are your names and role in the band?
My name is Jeff, and I do vocals in the band.

2. How did you guys come up with the name "In Irons"?

"In Irons" is a term used in sailing that means having turned onto or against the wind. Meaning things in this life are rough, and alot of people will run from them. We however are taking these things head on and trying to push through them to become better people. Almost all the lyrics we write are about how you cant trust man and that mankind will fail you and you will hit rough spots in life. We have all found hope, encouragement, and Truth in Jesus Christ, though and we try to show people that its not always what the Church (as a building) says it is: Rules, codemnation, etc. We also write to christians on how we can better ourselves.

3. You guys are playing Cornerstone Festival, you guys excited?

Totally stoked on it, man. This will be for all of us not only our first time playing Cornerstone, but our first time to even attend the event. We are really excited to hang out with some friends and stuff. Hopefully we will get there in time to see Life In your Way, because it will be our last chance to ever see them before they break up. *hangs head =[* haha.

4. The cover for "The Heartbeat Of The Times" is very different, how did that concept come about?

Well, the idea was to show a modern day all around dude about to enter into a Church or we like to think of it more as, the presence of God. The purpose of him just being a regular dude is to convey the idea that you dont have to be in a suit and tie to believe, talk, hang out with, or worship the Lord. Its not a difficult task like some make it out to be.

5. You hooked up with Holdfast Records, how did that come about?

Actually, Dave came to one of our shows to support his other company, Uprise Magazine (www.uprisezine.com). And he really liked us, so we started talking. About a month or two later after some prayer and more conversation on it, we made it official. We love Dave and everything he does for us and couldn't be more happy. Its truely a blessing to work with him.

6. Your musical influences are a lot of old school hardcore bands, what do you think about the hardcore scene today?

Hmm, thats a toughy. I think its become too much on trends and whats hot, however i dont think its as bad off as some like to think it is. There are still some great kids out there that love music and dont change every week as well as some great bands that have an awesome message and great material. One of my favorite bands of today is It Prevails, we all love those dudes and they are pretty good friends of ours. Their music is just passionate and they really have heart behind what they do. Got mad respect for them. Sleeping Giant is another band we all love. Mainly because their music just rules, but also because we share the same beliefs as them as far as true spirit-filled music and just spreading the love of Jesus everywhere.

7. What's your take on music downloading?

Well, ill be honest. I download sometimes when i cant find it elsewhere. But, i will always support when touring bands come though. I know how it is not getting money, but thats not always whats important for us. If there is a site that has our cd for free....go for it, by all means. Burn it for a friend. Our message and hard work is getting out there, and thats what we love to see.

8. What's your inspiration for the song writing aspect of your music?

Straight up, being in the presence of the Lord. haha. Thats it, and of course all our influences.

9. What are you currently listening to?

Man, It Prevails, American Me, Carry The Torch, Strongarm(always), Shai Hulud, Means, Sleeping Giant, Life In Your Way....the list could go on forever, haha.

10. What's next for In Irons?

We are actually about to start working on some new material. We have some stuff, but we just have not had the time to fuse it all together yet. So writing and then, we hit the road with our boys Choices Made from July 20th-Aug 5th. So, COME OUT and hang!!

11. Any shoutouts?

All our hometown homies in the 256. Tony from American Me, returning the shoutout he did for us in AMP mag. haha. Choices Made, we cant wait for tour. Carry The Torch....we will tour someday! It Prevails, take care of our boy Tanner! All you that have taken the time to listen to our music, thank you so much, it means the world to us! And we pray blessings on all of you. Thanks to you for the interview, kind sir!

Genre: Screamo/Hardcore comparable to Underoath or Blessthefall.
Interviewed on: 4/12/08
From: Flemington, NJ
www.myspace.com/theairibreathenj

www.myspace.com/theairibreathenj

1. What are your names and role in the band?

Colin- Frontman and screamer
Josh- Lead guitarist and songwriter
Jeff- Guitarist and songwriter
Greg- Drummer and singer
Alex- Bassist
Eric- Synth / keys and back-up vocals

2. How did the band form?
Well, we started out as just Josh, Greg, Alex, and Jeff. This was about two years ago now. We weren't very established until about a year ago when Colin joined the band. We went through a couple frontmen who we weren't satisfied with until about 10 months ago when we discovered Colin. One of Alex's good friends heard that we needed a new screamer, so he recommended Colin to us. He came to audition and he was pretty legit. We had him scream "Writing on the Walls" by Underoath and it was great. He had the style, drive, good attitude, and the scream we were looking for. We only got Eric in about a month ago, and he has been a great addition. We are all like brothers to each other and we work very well together. I think this is the permanent line up.

3. When can we expect the new album? How's it coming so far?

As of now we have one song done. It is actually up on our myspace. It is called "I am Glad it was a Sea Monster and not an Alien". We are redoing our other song "Birth" at the same studio, so it should sound pretty tight. There will be five or six songs on our EP. We are just finishing up writing a new song which is going great. It has a very unique sound to it that we're very happy with. The EP should be done within the next four months or so. We don't have enough money to go into the studio right now, but we're going as soon as we can get it. We're not promising six amazing songs, however, if you like catchy chorus's, brutal breakdowns, and badass guitar solos, you will enjoy our EP. We put everything we have into our writing and we try to be as creative as possible.

4. Being from NJ (a traditional hotbed for music), are there any NJ based bands that influence you guys?

There are many bands who have influenced us in the NJ area. Bands such as Strike, The Odyssey, Even the Odds, Our Crisis, Waking the Cadaver, Van Atta High, Bandit! Bandit! and many others. We compare ourselves to bands who are farther than us to make our selves work harder. It is good to be hard on ourselves, and with out all the other progressing NJ bands, we wouldn't be working as hard as we do.

5. What's your inspiration for the song writing?

Have you ever noticed how signed bands always come out with that one amazing song that every body seems to enjoy? We work hard to one day write that song. The song that will catch every one's attention. We take many elements from different genres of music and many different bands. We try to come up with catchy singing parts, brutal screaming parts, technical and catchy guitar parts, and melodic, peaceful synth parts. We are starting to add in piano during some of our break downs to throw people off a little bit and grab there attention. Everything we write comes directly from our passion for music. Once we come up with one part, everything just flows from there. However, coming up with that one amazing part can be a pain sometimes.

6. What's your take on music downloading?

Well it's screwing the music industry big time, but i doubt it will affect bands like us. If you go on limewire trying to find a Gwen Stacy song or a For Today song, you will have a difficult time finding a good download in any. It mostly affects major bands like Fall Out Boy, the Academy Is, and such. As for itunes, we think it is great.

7. If you could tour with any three bands who would they be?

Hmm that is a tough one. I can't speak on my behalf so I'll try to speak for everyone in the band. I'm going to have to say Blessthefall, A Skylit Drive, and I See Stars.

8. What are you currently listening to?

We are listening to bands such as; Enter Shikari, Blessthefall, A Skylit Drive, Arsonists Get All the Girls, For Today, Gwen Stacy, I See Stars, Suicide Silence, Sky Eats Airplane, Oh, Sleeper, and many others.

9. What's next for The Air I Breathe?

Well the finals for the break competition are coming up in about two weeks so we are working on selling around 90-100 tickets which is a long shot for us. But if we win it we are playing Bamboozle 08' which would be amazing for us. Other than that, we might do a summer tour with our good buddies Your Final Hour and we are trying to play Cornerstone.

10. Any shoutouts?

For sure.... Your Final Hour, we love you guys! If anyone is interested in supporting us for the break competition, message us at myspace.com/theairibreathenj !!

1. What are your names and role in the band?

Well, I'm Brandon and I do all the vocals. There is Toby who plays bass, Lee who plays drums, and Mike who plays guitar. We recently lost a guitarist and are 4-piecing it for now. We're seeking God's will in the situation. We have some different options we're looking into as far as filling that spot. Our upcoming tour in May will be as a 4-piece.

2. You guys just released an EP with Saravian but when can we expect a new full length?

Honestly, I really don't know. I wish I could tell you for sure. I would definitely say by the end of the year. Right now, it's looking like it is going to called "Progress." The songs "Waiting" and "Come, Follow Me" from the split will be on it. It will probably be about 8 tracks in total.

3. You guys have a very strong Christian influence, is that something that was ever a problem with anyone?

If you mean anyone in the band, the answer is no. We started this as a band that wanted to glorify God in its lyrics. Slowly but surely, we realized Ready the Way was more than that. We exist as a ministry for Jesus Christ. Some people don't like it that we're so bold but we are doing what we feel called to do. We truly feel like the church has lost its love, it's heart and purpose. It is rejecting the very people Christ came to save: the sick. We are trying to show the kids of this scene that, despite the fact that they may have been hurt and pushed down and neglected and scarred, there is a God in heaven who craves an intimate relationship with them. When we tour we hope to plant seeds of faith, we desire to allow Christ to change hearts through the music he is blessing us with.

4. How does the writing process occur with the band?

Things are little different now, since our other guitarist left. We usually will get together when Mike's got a sweet guitar line to build off of. Lee and Toby will be ready to learn and jam with him. I usually supervise until it's mostly together and then I will start to add my vocals.

5. You guys have a lot of shows coming up with a lot of different bands (Gray Lines Of Perfection, Burden Of A Day, It Prevails, etc). Are there any bands you'd like to tour with in the near future that you haven't played shows with yet?

The tour of a lifetime for us would be with Life in Your Way. We've played with them several times and we're good friends with them but they're breaking up now. :( I personally would love to play with As Cities Burn, Misery Signals, and Thrice. I dream big. Haha.

6. The cover art for the split EP with Saravain is very unique, was it one of you guys' designs or one of theirs?

Saravain approached us about doing the split and Paul, their guitarist, already had two designs he had been working on. He and I decided on the one you see on the cd and on your computer. I love it.

7. Being from VA, how is the scene there?

We love our scene. Lynchburg is so awesome. We are all from Richmond but everyone but me goes to school in Lynchburg, about 2 hours away. We play there more than Richmond. The kids there have really taken us in and embraced us as their own. It's so awesome to have so many great people showing up consistently to see us and go crazy. We love them and everything they do for us.

8. Is it safe to say that the music from the split EP will sound like the music on the upcoming album?

Generally, I would say yes. Just keep in mind the fact that we lost a guitarist so some things, especially if a new guy comes in to help us in writing, are going to be a little different. Not too different though. Maybe a little more br00tal. Haha. Yeah, we're br00tal. Just kidding. Ok, so maybe a little.

9. What are you currently listening to?

Personally, I'm currently really into Beloved, Conditions, Deas Vail, The Glorious Unseen, Gwen Stacy, It Prevails, Oceana, The Postal Service, Search the City, and Thrice. Wow that got really long.

10. What's next for Ready The Way?

We're working on practicing for tour right now. We're also still booking that tour. We still need some help if any one can offer any. We may finish one more new song before tour, but other than that the rest of this summer will be devoted to getting things together, unifying, and hopefully writing. We shall see what happens.

11. Any shoutouts?

RTW loves: God! He keeps us going even when we lack. Other than Him, our families, our lovely girlfriends (yes, we're all very happily taken), Caleb Stone, Ed Nicholson, Joe McElroy, Cory at IVM, John at The Sound Barn, My Epic, Saravain, Gray Lines of Perfection, Life in Your Way, The Comeback Tour, Flynn, The Avenger, Cease the White Horse, and Aneirin. There are so many people I know I'm leaving out and I'm sorry but I don't wanna be doing this for forever (and trust me, I probably could).

1. What are your names and role in the band?
Matty - Vocals
Ben - Guitars
Daryl - Guitars
G - Bass
Davey - Drums

2. How's the new album coming along? Does the song "Severance" sound like the rest of the album will?

It's going well so far, we're not specifically writing for an album but there're 3 or 4 songs ready for us to work on which will be on an album if we eventually write one. They're all on a similar level to severance, but things are getting a little more progressive and experimental and abit more dark. We've started experimenting with huge textures, like 8 guitars at once shit and. theres some layered up acoustic parts happening now too. its gonna be hard to do live but worth it in the end - we hope.

3. Being from the UK, the metal scene is growing very fast, what makes you guys stand out in the sea of metal?

the majority of metal bands from the uk (with some exceptions obviously) are hitting the generic brutal metal route looking for the JFAC, Suicide Silence, Knights of the Abyss chug chug side of things. We're alot more focused on the melody and musicality of it all, loads of harmonised guitars and stuff. Whereas most of the uk bands are going for the american metal style, we're pretty much mixing european metal with american thrash. The only underground band i can think of from the uk right now doing that is Anterior from wales.

4. How did you hook up with Mat Caron from Carnival Of Horrors?

Matty's been a close friend of mine and Davey's (drums) for a good 4 years now. Davey was his first friend when he moved here from Wales so they go way back and i met him soon after through a mutual friend. We stayed good friends right up til now, and when the first lineup of TSH went to shit Mat was stupid enough to say "if you ever reform it and need a vocalist, i'll totally do it" clearly thinking i'd never do it. Turns out i did and i held him to it, which is totally awesome cause hes an incredible vocalist and an incrdible frontman. It all worked out really well, really easily. Without mat, i would never have worked to get the new lineup and there'd be no TSH now.

5. You guys have a show with 3 Inches Of Blood coming up, you guys excited? Have you guys played with any nationally signed acts before?

Yeah the 3Inches show is gonna be fucking sick!! We've got some special guests coming to check us out aswell which could result in some important news for us. I don't wanna say anything unless things dont quite go to plan, but it could be good times. But we all love 3 inches and it'll be sick to play with them. We've played with a couple big bands before - anterior (metal blade) and sylosis (nuclear blast) who are both AWESOME bands. The best two underground bands going in the uk in my opinion. We've got shows with See You Next Tuesday, Despised Icon and Cephalic Carnage coming up too.

6. We saw that you had your EP up for downloading, what's your take on music downloading?

The thing with Newborn was that it was all written and recorded with the old lineup, so when they all quit, there was really nothing we could do with it. we thought it'd be a waste to just lose all the tracks, so we put them up for download as they're still a big part of our set. the amount of music we download, we'd be hypocrites if we didnt anyway.. money's the least important thing as far as we're concerned and at the end of the day, if its free, more people will hear it and the more people that hear our music and enjoy it, the happier we are.

7. If you could describe your band in three words, what what it be?

Epic melodic metal

8. What are you currently listening to?

depends who you ask! as a band we have the most ridiculous music taste haha.

Ben - Black metal/thrash/prog
Mat - punk/acoustic/however the fuck you
describe Modern Life Is War
Davey - Everything ever.
G - hardcore
me - trance and dance

clearly we all appreciate metal and we all listen to everything, but if we're generalising...
Also, buy the new In Flames album!

9. What's next for The Scarlet Hourglass?

Well, it all depends how 3inches goes! ;) this year could be good for us though as far as tours and releases go. We've got a few weekenders and basic plans coming up though. We're basically gonna keep writing and keep playing shows, and keep fucking partying! thats how it goes in TSH camp.

10. Any shoutouts?

Just the one, to Tim Yankeeboy, the promotor at our local venue. without him we'd probably literally be nowhere. if we ever get any bigger, the simplicity of it is that Tim gets all the credit :P
